Fitted kitchens

Post by OscarMike »

Can anyone recommend a company that makes fitted kitchens? (cupboards, draws shelves etc) without asking for six figures!

I'm sure this has been asked before but I can find the thread.

Have you tried KVIK on Phetkasem road, near bangkok bank and esso fuel station.

hard to say not six figure prices as we dont know how big or what you want in your kitchen.

Modernform seems popular in many housing developments over on the east side here. Don't know if they have a showroom in Hua Hin. Some people love what they make, and some hate it. From what I've seen, they appear well made, strong, and termite proof so I've been told. Pete

Here's the Modernform website, but unfortunately they don't appear to have a showroom in Hua HIn. Pete

Thanks for the tips, checked a few out but they're all still well over budget. Has anyone tried building their own kitchen? You can buy the wooden doors and frames for a little over 2000 baht, drawers are a little more. I can't understand why simple wooden cabinets and cupboards are so damn expensive here. The granite and appliances we already have.

As i've heard many times (and it does piss my Thai wife off a great deal) "you farangs can afford to pay for it".
That said the people who built our development were a Scandinavian/Thai couple and it was still the same attitude, trying to charge us double the cost for some appliances, with a take it or leave it attitude. The quality of the kitchen was Thai made, but they charged European prices for it...

Given the option to shop elsewhere why did you not?

As for the quality of the kitchen being "Thai made" ? Well firstly you are insulting Thai trade professionals as a whole. They would have been given a budget and worked to it. I have seen hundreds of kitchens here made to very high standard, as good as a 1m baht Italian job done for a little over half the price. Also some stunners in high end villas and condos. Guess where they were made?

Yes, my sentiments exactly. I've always said you can get the same quality here as you can anywhere else, but you can also get the cheaper version. Unfortunately, the temptation to save a bit of cash can be quite overwhelming, but then we complain when we get what we paid for. Fortunately, I realize where I stand - I buy cheap, and then moan, but at least I can have a bloody good laugh at myself....lol.

Option wasn't available - it was their kitchen like it or not, plus i was working abroad.

As for the comment regarding the "insulting the Thai trade" i beg to differ, we paid top dollar for the kitchen installation but didn't get it, budget or not, we were advised it would be a quality build but fell way short. When we complained it fell on deaf ears, and were hit with a barrage that they wanted the remainder of the money for the house (which we did hold out on until we got the cheenote and house book).
I do not doubt that there are high standards out there, but until the duds are weeded out people will continue to get ripped-off. Unfortunately we cannot name names, so these duds can only be weeded out by word of mouth.

Winner, on Petchkasem opposite Index nearly, have kitchen units (carcass and doors) in their catalogue but last time I was there they had none on display.

If you can get good quality doors and fittings you could consider a Thai Style kitchen made of bricks and mortar. From the outside they can look just as good as a 'Euro' style kitchens and bricks don't succumb to termites.

I think you missed my point so I will explain.

It is a pet hate of mine when us Farang run down Thai people as all being useless or shoddy. You pay peanuts you know what you get. Sounds like you paid top dollar and the developer then paid peanuts, did not keep an eye on it or simply did not care. Shame on them if that is the case. I have no idea what you paid or what you got and its after the fact so too late.

Sad as there are so many good people out there.

I see no problem with the Thai style kitchen using a concrete frame instead of being all wood. If fact this is what I'm after since the falang kitchens are more expensive here than falangland and the build budget is almost exhausted.

So ... any tips/recommendations on building one or getting a quote from someone that wont come round with dollars in their eyes because our skin is a different color.
