An era of decent affordable bikes for LOS

Post by Spitfire »

Admittedly they have been out for a bit, but you are now starting to see all these cool new factory spec small/mid-sized bikes at reasonable prices.

Saw the new Honda CBR 250, awesome, only 120,000 baht new, bargin IMO, got duel disc brakes too, a much needed improvement on the old 150cc version.

Not to mention all the new Kawasaki bikes like the 250 Ninja, 650 versions too and the 650 one (forget it's name now) that's only 230,000 baht new.

This sudden release of decent 250cc up to 650cc seems to have brought down the prices of the larger engined bikes a bit, especially the second hand ones as so many people are just going for a 250cc etc at such a reasonable price.

Good to see that silly engine size law out the window, some good affordable bikes around now. Also, more will be on the way, be interesting to see what Yamaha release to answer the ones out already (apart from the 650 R6 which costs a fortune), something could already be out but I haven't seen anything yet, see what Rider knows when he reads this.

Agree the new CBR 250 looks good value for the price. This could be my mid life crisis. Anyone got one yet??

Just looking at new motorcycle prices. I can not believe the Tiger Boxer 250 is just 72, 000B. These seem to get alot of good reports even if people are wary of them. Resale value crap though! Again anyone got one?? Pros / Cons?

That CBR250 does look good ... http://www.aphonda.co.th/product/cbr250r/index.asp (IE only). I would be seriously tempted at that price and it seems big enough to go touring on.

This used to be the weapon of choice for a couple of years:

Great fun, light, relatively quick about town, but you wouldn't want to do any long distances on it.

Had a ride of the 250 Boxer which certainly has a fair bit of grunt but lacks that smooth and refined feel you get with the Hondas. Would like to try the 250 Ninja.

I bought one on the 31st of December, great little bike and it is plenty big enough to go touring.
Longest trip so far has been up to Ratchaburi and found it to be pretty comfortable.
I have been riding for many years and I have a number of bikes and I would recommend the 250 CBR as a great starter bike.

Does anyone teach bike driving in Hua Hin. I rode a lot in my twenties but not since then (nearly 40 years ago since my last bike) and I'm sure the controls and technology have changed significantly since then.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

I don’t know of anyone teaching bike riding in Hua Hin
Even after 40 years you will find that the basics are still pretty much the same, so I am sure you would manage, as long as your sense of balance is still okay.
This new Honda is definitely one of the easiest bikes to ride and as I said before great as a starter bike for the novice or just a fun bike for the old hands.

If so then get a CBR250 or higher and also get one of these pictured below with questionable morals and a careless sense of direction for a year or two. :naughty:

Should sort out a mid-life crisis pretty convincingly.

Spitfire Nice picture have you got her number? Im very tempted...

Love the CBR 150 still a great bike. Borrow my mates all the time. Think they retail around 75K. If anyone knows of a second hand one going cheap please let me know. Is there anywhere down town to hire this model. All I ever see are scooters and the phantoms?

Any good websites for second hand bikes?

According to this site, http://www.motorcycle.in.th/article.php ... test-Model, the CBR250 costs 100,500 baht. If that's the case, I'm getting one

I checked that too - will have a look in the Honda dealership, its looking better and better all the time!

lippy, you're a little too late I'm afraid, I sold that Repsol CBR150 last year for 28k. Will keep an eye out for another one, I know a couple of people that have them that may want to sell. The Bahtsold website has a lot of bikes for sale.

Honda Thailand is the worldwide manufacturer of the CBR250 and at the moment it seems exports are the priority.

I have heard that in Thailand they are now quoting 120,000B for Non-ABS and 130,00 for ABS, with up to a two month delivery.

Thanks Buksida I'm sure one will pop up no rush!
Your old CBR looked good any modifications or did you leave it standard?

I have the honda pcx, its not a rocket ship, but comfy for the 13 k ride to town. They retail at 71000 baht, i bought one with 1200 k's on it from a man that had to go back to work in the uk, for 54000 baht. It can do a nice 100 k's a hour. I can get 104 out of it on a nice cool night. And i get about 43 k's per litre, up it 100% of the time. Has a heap of under seat storidge aswel, probebly 3 times that of the click etc.My gsxr 1000 could of course beat it in 1st gear, but horses for courses

Okay, I stopped by the Honda dealer in Hua-Hin yesterday and the have both the 150 and 250 there. The 250 they have has ABS and costs 135,000. They also told me they're getting another one today which does not have ABS, and that one costs 110,000. If you want to pay it off, deposit is 45,000 and then the remainder can be paid over 6, 12, or 18 months. Had a sit on it, and a real good look, and I must say I'm sold, so will more than likely get one within the next few months. I can't comment on the mechanics, but as it sure does have the looks. I would like to hear the sound it makes though, because I really don't like the bikes that sound like a chicken with a wasp up its arse.

Buksi, if you're already tempted, and you go around to the dealer and look at it in the flesh, you'll almost certainly end up buying one  It's really a nice looking machine, which of course is why there will soon be one parked in my drive :thumb:
