Loosing weight with coffee ?

Post by Amarita »

Two very good Thai friends has lost a lot of weight
these last 3 months. One of them has actually
lost 14 kilograms in 2 -3 months.
She say that she has bought some coffee at
the market, drinks on packet each morning, and
feel no hunger during the day.
I saw the packet, but it had only thai writing.
I asked her if is was some dangerous stuff in
it, but she only said "mai pen rai". Happy to loose
all this kiloes I think.
Somebody know what this is ?

My wife's been drinking the stuff on and off for a few years - it's never worked :?

My wife said the brand she used was called Poi Sai (sp?), which I can't find. If you google "thai weight loss coffee" there are plenty of options for you to look at.

Thai women do seem very susceptible to these weight loss gimmicks. I knew one lady who discovered the weight loss fad of the time, which was just a kind of candy/sweet. She was so covinced it would work that she ate loads of the things. Thai logic - the more sweets you eat the more weight you will lose.
The strange thing is that there could well be some Thai herb or other which aids weight loss - but they (the Thais) in general seem to think they can take these remedies while still continuing to eat every 2 hours as normal, and not walking anywhere  .

^ Yes, I don't know how they do it. I swear my wife eats more than I do and she has remained around 43 kilos (less than half my body weight) for the entire 15 years we've been married while I continually gain and lose (with great effort) up to 15 kilos!

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I drink (she doesn't)
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

If only beer did work, then I would have the body of an Adonis, but alias I have put on at least 1Kg for every year I have been in Hua Hin and I have been here since 1987, so I reckon I need to start drinking that coffee.

My girlfriend (Thai) gets suckered with this rubbish and sometimes sneaks Nature Gift Coffee Plus into the shopping cart, as it's not so visible as Nestle's Pro-Slim Coffee packaging. You just need to look at the ingredients. For Nature Gift, only 17% is actually coffee, 70% is non-dairy creamer (which is just vegetable fat and glucose syrup solids - you can actually set fire to it!), 10% artificial sweeteners, so that doesn't leave much room for the supposed good stuff.

My girlfriend says after she drinks a cup she doesn't feel hungry for hours. A big glass of water or a normal cup of coffee or two does the same for me. We both end up eating the same as we do normally afterwards. Gimmicky rubbish.

Best to take it off the boil first.

Here is some info about coffee from an Ayurvedic perspective...

It is a mild narcotic and addictive. Coffee increases both Vata (air) and Kapha (earth), so there should, in theory, be neither weight gain or loss (unless you load it with sugar).

Coffee promotes indigestion, hyperacidity, or ulcers. It's a nervine and cardiac stimulant. 'Air' types tend to suffer from nervousness, so don't need stimulants. The stimulating effects of coffee can last 12 hours, adversely affecting sleep. Coffee enemas are thus, best avoided at night.

'Earth' types tend towards lethargy and heaviness, so a coffee can be a 'pick-me-up'. Also for those lacking energy, with low BP or depression.

Coffee and tea are drying and can increase constipation (dry 'air' types should avoid), however coffee can stimulate peristalsis, hence its use in colonics.

Withdrawal headaches are often experienced.

Cardamon acts as an antidote to coffee. Cardamon coffee is popular in Arabian countries.

There are more claimed benefits and risks if you do a search.

I enjoy a coffee now and again. Great aroma and taste. :thumb:

As far as I know, coffee to a certain extent, suppresses appetite, so yes, I would imagine it does help with weight loss. Perhaps that's why have never put on weight, even though I eat what like, and drink a fair amount of beer. I do drink loads of coffee, and always have done. Saying that, the say coffee stops you from sleeping, and yet I can drink a cup of coffee right before going to be, and still fall asleep within minutes.

I think if you're going to tuck into a full western style breakfast, a huge lunch, and then another huge meal at dinner time, you're bound to put on weight unless you have a very physically demanding job. Even more so if you drink loads of beer. In all my time here, I've never witnessed anyone active enough to justify three big meals per day, not if they want to avoid putting on weight.

Also, a lot depends on your metabolism. When I was still working offshore, I would eat in a day what I now eat in a week, and yet I never once went past the 70kg mark. Oh well, I guess I'm just lucky......now time for another coffee :thumb:

Anyone tried the weight loss pills from the Doctor? Apparently they work but you also need another pill to help you sleep, so God knows what's in them. g/f also says you put twice the weight back on again.
