TOT in Pranburi area - service
TOT in Pranburi area - service
Hi,
I have just started using TOT wireless internet in the Sam Roi Yod / Pranburi area. Is it normal that the service is basically non-existent in the evenings?
When I got it up and running the first time, it worked for an hour or two, then totally died (only lights on router were power, and a flashing ADSL sync. light) an engineer came and sorted it out, then it worked fine until for a few hours until around 8pm when it just kind of faded away...(lights were on on router, but ADSL data was flashing irregularly).
Before I was using the connection with a network cable from laptop to router and it had the same problem, just died in the evening.
Is this normal for the service / area? Does anybody have any ideas what I can do about it?
TIA!

Hi, problem is the same if you're using Wifi or normal J45 cable connection to a router for broadband connection. Unfortunately restricted bandwith in the provinces and remote areas (yours) causes the very limited T~OT network to become clogged with traffic, especially in the evenings when everyone is on line in your locallity.
What TOT need to do NATIONWIDE is install a good fibreoptic backbone network AND get rid of all the copper cable links to villages etc you see on the teleghraph poles up in the air. Until that day you'll have to put up with it or buy an AIR card (this is a USB device that has a SIM card inside) for use with one of the Mobile Operators that have good reception in your area (you need to to a bit of research which is the best mobile operator in your area though). Some are doing trials with 3G Mobile services (TOT being one of them) but not sure about your area though.
Thailand is lacking far behind other Asian and Asean countries in this respect i.e lack of telecommunications infrastructure investment.
I live in Bangkok mostly and Hua Hin occasionally but currently working in S. Korea who have the best broadband network with the the penetration per capita in the world. Even where I live some 40km outside the 2nd largest city (Busan) I get between 30 to 40 MB/S at all times of the day and night. Reason is they've installed a proper fibre Backbone over the whole country with good international access too. Thailand has good international access via CAT( Cooms Auth of Thailand) but lacks inland development.
Good luck hunting & 'Nuff said......

Re: TOT in Pranburi area - service
Do a Google search on "Aircard in Thailand" as an alternative to TOT Slowband. This is one result below
AIS 3G card for 2,700 THB allows the use of wireless internet everywhere in Thailand through AIS network. It also supports usage of GPRS, EDGE (EGPRS), along with 3G.
It is ready to use without getting it registered. Get another 2 free things which are – internet sim card for 1-2 call and free internet wireless internet hours - 50 hours – for 1 month. The next month just refill for 149 baht and get another 50 hours. This is part of the special you get with the 2,700 THB AirCard. You can buy this 3G AirCard at any AIS shop anywhere in Thailand and at Telewiz locations.
They mention nothing about 3G not working right now across the nation… hmmm.
On this page: AIS 3G Modem
They’re offering a 3G USB modem for 3,990 THB with a different deal.

Try using the http URL wwwand then speedtest followed by .net
to test you upload & download speeds at different times of the day.
Sorry I can't inlclude the full link but the webmaster doesn't allow url links to be posted with less than ten posts on HHAD.
Hope it helps?

Re: TOT in Pranburi area - service
Help. Has anyone got an update on the 3G status and WiFi/aircard speeds in Hua Hin? I would like some decent recommendations on which telco I can rely on for decent support and rates. I have my own USB device as well.
I know there is WiFi in the room but I have been reading about internet outage? Can barely live without 24/7 connectivity! I am too spoilt in Singapore with 3G and minimum speeds of 54 MBps
MTIA!

Re: TOT in Pranburi area - service
I bought my first aircard (which was stolen) from Market Village. It cost me 2500B and was an 'open' aircard meaning I could use any SIM in it. It was a HSDPA w/3G capabilities (apparently) and I never had any probs with it. My new aircard which I bought a few days ago cost less and is called IMMORTAL. I bought this from the market right at the end of canal road; it's similar to my 1st one. Connection isn't great and it keeps dropping but that's because I live a little way out from HH centre. I get no WIFI access where I am either....mabubba wrote:Definitely got to look into one of these...lovell_alan wrote:AIR card
What ever did I do before 'tinternet??

Re: TOT in Pranburi area - service
It was stolen with my Netbook when my house got burgled.... I'm sure you'll be fine providing you use your loaf and hide/lock away your belongings when you go out
As we speak I am having problems with my new Immortal aircard.... it just disconnects then I reconnect and it isn't recognised so I have to keep taking it out and reinserting into USB port, grrrrrrrrr. Will reinstall and see if situation improves... I would defo go with the original HSDPA I had if I were you.... I still have the box if you need to know what it looks like

Unfortunately the house is tucked away in the corner and it's quite difficult to see see all area's of our property without them actually stepping through our gates :/
I shall take a photo and upload it for you later.
Awww, it was my first time here in HH before I moved here!

Re: TOT in Pranburi area - service
Is TOT the only broadband provider in the Sam Roi Yod area? I'm moving to my new house in July which is near Dolphin bay resort. I heard from the locals that they are still waiting for the 3G coverage and at this moment they are using aircards with very slow speeds.
If I remember well there was a contract issue going on between DTAC and True for this 3G dilemma. I hope it will be resolved by then.
