Dual Sim Mobile Phones

Post by Terry »

I know they exist and are made by several brands

Anyone out there had any direct experience - reliability - cost etc etc?

I would be interested to know - Mrs.T is getting tired of carrying several mobiles around!

Hi Terry

Most of the dual sim card phones on the market seem to be Chinese no-names.
The only reputable brand I'm aware of that has a dual sim phone is Samsung.

Another alternative, which I use and find very reliable, is one AIS sim card with 2 numbers which you can use in any phone.

It doesn't matter whether they are monthly account or 1-2-Call numbers or one of each, but they do both have to be AIS sims.

You just go to Telewiz with your sim cards and they issue you with the new one with 2 numbers within minutes for 100 baht.

You can have the two numbers on simultaneously or switch off either number at will.

Barry's perfectly right with regards to Samsung - had on myself, and other than failing the "dropped off the back of a motorbike taxi" test, worked very well.

Also correct with regards to the Chinese (copy) phones, although I have a "iPhone" dual SIM which has worked well for the 8 or so months I've had it.

Interesting with regards to the 2 numbers on 1 SIM - not heared of that since I had a Nokia Communicator (brick) many moons ago.

With regards to the dual SIM phones from our Chinese freinds... http://www.lightinthebox.com/index.php? ... =dual+card

The only problem with the 2 numbers on one SIM of course is that it wouldn't help me or others with the same problem - i.e. wanting a local number and keeping your international number.

There are Dual SIM adaptors available which allow you to put two SIM cards in a multitude of standard mobile phones. I've not actually tried myself, but have heared they do work well.

I had one of these adapters about 5 years ago.
The biggest drawback was that you couldn't have the two numbers active at the same time - only one or the other.

With the 2 numbers on one sim you can have both active and receive calls on either number. You can also decide via a special sim icon on the menu if you want to switch to the second number to call out on.

My wife has a G net and I have a copy Nokia N97. Both dual sim and both have worked perfectly for the six months we have had them. Unlike the real Nokia N72 bought at Tesco which started malfunctioning within one month of purchase. I have also heard good reports of phones made by Wellcom. Chinese and cheap but the reliability seems to be improving.

I have an I-mobile dual sim touchpad telephone, using it for international and local. It is robust, works beautifully - I have absolutely no complaints. Bought it at Tesco-Lotus.I don't remember the price but somewhere between 3.5 -4.500 BHT. Dual sim phones from I-mobile come in various sizes and configurations.

Hi There Terry

I'm using right now the 2 Numbers 1 Sim card option as Barrys discribed for over a year now and I can tell you it works like a Charm. I use 1Post paid number and the other I number I use Prepaid and all in one Sim Card. Plus with special Codes you can check how many minutes, SMS's. MMS's and Mobile Internet minutes you had used up!

I just have two phones so that I can always claim that the other one was at home when someone annoying is trying to call me.
