Thailand Environment Watch

Post by PeteC »

OK, here's another one and a place to condense and organize articles and comments. This should in many respects be more positive than our 'corruption watch' thread as there are some good things happening here in Thailand and the region.

This is not the place to rehash global warming and carbon credits again but a place to comment on programs, efforts and failures that are happening in Thailand that we read about and experience directly.

In consultation with some other forum members they wanted to assure that if we started this thread it would include local Hua Hin issues. A few examples:

- Name and shame if you see an establishment or address dumping used motor oil, cooking oil, paint down the storm drains.

- How are used cell phones, computers and other electronic equipment being disposed of when their useful life is over?

- Where are collection points for hazardous materials and can their disposal/recycling practices be confirmed?

- Pinpoint exact locations where raw sewage is running into the sea and where illegal dumping of garbage is taking place.

- What are you doing personally in your home and businesses to help the environment?

Hopefully this will be a useful thread giving everyone a chance to learn and contribute to helping our surroundings and life here. Pete

Yes, exactly right and you beat me too it. With photos perhaps Lev could interest the Observer in publishing a story, or even an ongoing journal. It wouldn't be a bad idea to somehow get your Mayor's email address as well and forward to him with details. Pete

The woman could win this one, at least the part about false declaration. Although vague, her description is correct. Pete

I was reading that the situation in Vietnam is getting quite desperate due to the level of the Mekong.
They're predicting a plague of rice eating insects too.
