I've literally just had a unit installed through the help of a friend/next door neighbour. He'd priced a few units up and Home Pro was offering some deals (at least to the end of the month).
Nowhere near the size you're looking, but a 10,000 BTU Samsung unit was on offer at 15,400 Baht, fitted, with 12 month warantee.

I think if you look at the documents you'll find the compressor warranty goes for longer than that. All that I know of are for 5 years and Trane giving 7. Rare that a compressor will go south but it does happen. Petepharvey wrote:I've literally just had a unit installed through the help of a friend/next door neighbour. I have used Carrier which are excellent but pricey. Central air have never let us down with after sales service in a number of years on a number of properties. They are a dedicated aircon company with offices in soi 88 and also by the biker bar and the vets on the klong road. The carrier were 140k central air were 100k on the same size house BUT we have given them a lot of work so get good discount. Hope this helps.

Could you please give a more detailed description of Central Air's location. I went up the soi twice today but couldn't locate their shop.crazy88 wrote:I have used Carrier which are excellent but pricey. Always used Big Kiang, 90% of the time they deliver/install next day and same with service engineer. We pay 22,000 Baht for an LG 18,000 Btu installed, not sure if wife has negotiated a rate with them as order a lot for the houses.
There's more quality manufacturers' models out there but never had any real problems with LG units over past 5 years.

Drive along the klong road from town heading north and when you get to the only traffic lights you will see one on the right. Turning into soi 88 heading south from town cross the railway line and head 100m past the 7/11 in a straight line NOT left or right, The klong road one has provided better service with regard to timescale but no complaints about either.

Hi All
My current job in the UK
is Designing, Selling AC systems
as well as Contracting AC installs from
Comms room to Large offices etc
Obviously when i am on holiday in LOS
I see some amazing installations....
I always wonder if there is any legislations
over in LOS
ie
Do you need qualified engineers
Does the Company installing require
its engineers to do handling of refrigerant
or lifting courses etc etc
...or have to fill in risk assessments
and method statement before they go to site...
You get the picture .....
Yours fed up with all the paperwork and regs
Just interested in any comments!

Ha ha, bit optimistic there dude, here it's all a bit 'Yahooo!' Little is guaranteed, even in malls etc you see signs that say "No return of goods-No Refund".
One time I saw an 'engineer' here bleeding the gas from an old air-conditioning unit and he didn't bat an eyelid about the people smoking close by. Was going to mention that heating freon and inhaling it through a cigarette can convert it into phosgene, the WWI gas, but then realised the difficulty of trying to explain myself and didn't bother, just retreated to a safe distance as was fairly new to Thailand then.
Many instillations are carried out by the "in-house" work guys that work as "Jacks-of-all-trades" for the small independant suppliers who often supply much of what is bought by the general public. Might have a little more with large national companies but say that with my tongue in my cheek.
It's not just with this line of business but many others to, but to regulate it and enforce anything would simply put people out of jobs and business, example would be food safety standards, not really an option.
They do have that 'Good Food Standard' label which you see in some hotels and other places etc but how it's awarded and what they have to do I have no idea. This sort of stuff only seems to be a 'window dressing' exercise for tourists though.
Also, the installers do a lot of this work at their own risk, think I saw an article in the Nation a while back about it being more dangerous to be an electrician than a soldier on the Burmese border intercepting drug caravans.

As a matter of interest, is Air Conditioner Installation a job that a Farang is permitted to carry out?

Maybe on your own house BB, but I bet that's as far as it goes. You'd have to be very unlucky and have a neighbour that really hates you to get caught out on it and be reported. Anything further than that (anyone else's place etc) then it's 86ed for sure, no way. Though, to be technically anal about the law, then perhaps it's not allowed.

My understanding if a Thai can do the job then you by law can't,if its so specialised that a Thai cant do a certian job task you can obtain a visa to train them up.
So whatever way you look at it you legally cant do anything in your own house even your own gardening.
