Greetings and a bit of rambling

Post by RockyMtnJay »

Hello everyone, good info on this board but I probably didn't do as much reading as I should.

I'm in my mid 50s and American. You can probably almost figure out from which state by my user name.

A couple of comments:

Arrived here Sunday after five weeks in Pattaya. Was surprised how hot it seemed. I walk all over Pattaya and do work up a sweat. But the first two days here I was soaked. Guess it's the humidity? Seem to do a bit better starting yesterday. Walked from near the entertainment district to Tesco and survived pretty well.

Hua Hin is almost like taking a break from Thailand when you spend most of your time in Pattaya and lower Sukhumvit in BKK. Much English is spoken and even the street vendors selling food often give you a earnest sounding thank you in English. A very pleasant place to kick back and relax. With a few fringe benefits or course. :D

Welcome to the board Jay. Keep on reading, I'm sure you can learn alot.

This is the middle of winter in Hua Hin - some members have reported needing bedsocks in January. You should try it when it is hot. :D

Enjoy the relaxation 8)

Yes, welcome aboard.
It has been much hotter in Hua Hin this Christmas; the last couple certainly seemed much cooler but it came as a welcome change to a part-time visitor like me.
Last year I remember we actually left a beach restaurant early one day due to a cool wind.(Cool by SE Asian standards that is!)

Welcome to the forum RockyMtnJay :thumb:

Don't you mind the heat, there are plenty of nice cool watering holes in town where you can replace those lost fluids.
I've lost my mind and I am making no effort to find it.

Thanks Big Boy, migrant (USA USA USA), STEVE G and Khundon1975. Actually between the heat and walking my feet seem to have swollen up a bit. But alas I am back to Sin City tomorrow. So back to what passes for normal. I think HH deserves a return visit of longer duration after the return from my Cambo trip in mid Feb. I shall return...

Khundon1975 I tried your suggestion. But for some reason many Tiger beers  only seems to make my mind feel better. I must be doing something wrong.

As an old RMT high person myself, who still has property there, I can only make the comment that it dropped 25 degress in 30 minutes in Denver this morning -- if one believes the news; but it sure sucks in NoCal right now -- time to back my bags !!

Currently at my house it is -10°F/-23°C. The romantic stuff about Ridin' the Storm Out doesn't have as much luster as it once did. :( But it is still a good song. :D

Just arrived back in Pattaya. Carried my shoulder bag and laptop farther than I walked to breakfast in HH this morning (Top Marks Hotel to PR (RP?) Restaurant) and worked up about the same sweat. Must be the humidity.

Strange to be back to now what seems like the concrete jungle. Have to re-remember that the motorbikes will just run over me here.

Yes, that hunidity can be a bit of a killer. When the humidity is up, I can sweat anywhere - even in the UK (probably too much information :D ).

As for those motorcycles, I don't think Pattaya has the monopoly on crazy driving. In my experience they'll happily run you over anywhere in Thailand.
