Non-Delivery of postal items

Post by bapak »

MOD.. not sure what Forum this shoud in but no doubt in your wisdom you will make a wise decision.

On a daily basis at my work place I would talk to a daily average of 10 farangs and a continual theme is non-delivery of mail. Most of them live predominantly in so-called farang areas. The mail is not just that coming from overseas but also local.

Outgoing mail does not appear to be a problem.

Complaints to the HH Post Office seem not to get anywhere.

The feeling is that this problem has to be taken to a higher level. Suggestions, please.

Only way round it is to get the senders to use 'recorded delivery' or EMS service which reqires a signature at the other end, gets left alone then. Forget the normal post, light fingers everywhere, especially if it has English written on it, basically says "Open me and rifle through the contents". I used to find this problem sometimes too but it has stopped since telling everyone to use the 'recorded' service, they kleptos in the post service are opportunists.

My wife looking over my should as I wrote the earlier post said that she spoke to a Swedish woman yesterday who told her that she and several friends had got together to have the mail collected in Stockholm and sent to Hua Hin every week by DHL.

Haven't received anything sent to me here in Thailand except one package sent EMS (even one package sent from China). Had to drive to Prechaub Khiri Khan to P/U pkg. at Customs. They wanted me to pay 50,000 thb fee for a repaired dental plate that had been insured at replacement value of $1,500 but cost of repair was $0. Refused to pay and took them many calls over more than two months to get them to return the package to the sender in the U.S. Will now have a friend pick it up there and bring it to me at end of month.

Gosh for $750 I could have flown round trip to U.S. and picked the plate up at the dentist.

Ombudsman ?
Local council?
Local member?
Would need a Thai to raise the issue however.
Don't bother to contact Thai post as they don't respond !
Whilst I agree that DHL, registered mail is superior, my comment is why should you have to resort to those lengths when there is something wrong in the way mail is being processed particularly at HH and apparently only for farangs.
No point in speculating on thievery, incompetence, laziness, bloody mindedness, opportunism, poor education/training etc all of which may be a facet of the issue.

Will this work you think for 'recorded delivery' mail from England to Thailand? I've previously sent mail from Thailand to England with no problems but England to Thailand and my mail just seems to 'vanish'. HT.
It may be rubbish - but by golly it's British rubbish.

Does for me, the Royal Mail/Post Office do a decent 'recorded delivery' which my relatives etc use and always gets through, costs a little extra but there you go, depends how important the contents are, I suppose. I have even had credit/debit cards/UK drivers license sent like this, has always got through thus far because it needs a signature on arrival. There are those that are romantic about the normal service but I'm way past that these days.

summer 2009 I did stay in HH for two month. Before leaving I did pay a fee (about 6500THB) to Swedish Postservice for DAILY delivery of my mail to Hua hin (tehy had also weekly for half price).

For this two months I did order subscription of about 20 journals that would be delivered to my swedish address and forwarded to Hua Hin. Also as I am runnin several businesses, I am dependent on receiving the mails.

However, during my 2 month I think I received mail about 6 times!!
This is despite the fact that every week I was in the post office asking for where my mails are.

when returning back, I did had received penalty fees for not paying multiple bills and according to my local postman, he had almost daily forwarded my mail...

I think it is time that we do something about this...I have no clue where the mails are. Are they opening these in search for money? ..or are they just to Lazy to deliver these??

btw...a friend of mine did mention that there is a service offered at least here in Sweden where a company opens your mail and scan it and you can have it as e-mail teh same day it is received. Obviously that service wan´t that much more expensive than what I am already paying..so I will definitly check that out..

Because we never seemed to get any of our mail we took a PO box in the hope that things would then improve but that is not the case.

Had a parcel sent to our PO address four weeks ago from the UK and it has still not arrived, during this time my friend in Cha'am has received two parcels from the UK in a matter of days.

We made sure this parcel was sent before the current round of postal strikes in the UK so that should not have had any affect on the delivery.

We have however received our first Christmas card from the UK so it seems some things get through OK!

When I went to the HH post office I finally caught up with the supervisor/leading hand who was playing kick to kick with another person in the drive way.
I was taken up stairs.. My "guide" chatted to people doing the sort on the benches most of whom turned around and smiled - God knows what was said.
There was a big pile of mail piled on the floor some noted with o/s stamps. I guess they were getting ready for their weekly bonfire and BBQ.

There is something intrinsically wrong there and it needs to be cleaned up - end of story!!!!

Perhaps having the Thai wife going to the Police opposite the Post Office and filing a report against the Post Office for Grand Larceny and Theft would help?? Even mail posted here in Hua Hin to my Hua Hin address does not reach me. Mail posted to my P.O. Box reach me only with week's delays.
If anybody knows the name of the Chief of the Post Office, please post it here, the idea being that all of us who have mail problems write him a formal complaint (to be sent by registered mail) and with copies to the Mayor, Chief of Police, the news media, Tourist organizations, etc. etc...
IT IS TIME FOR ACTION.. :cuss:
