Halloween?
Is this night celebrated in the UK? Second, wondering if anything happens in HH concerning expat families dressing up their tots and taking them out for some fun? Pete

Halloween?
Happy Diwali Randy.
Anyone who doubts the existence of Halloween in England should take a look in our supermarkets right now! Where on earth do they get those huge pumpkins from?
And on a more serious note - can anyone remember where I parked my broomstick last year please? I can't get to the Walpugistnacht meet without it

Round my way they have banned halloween. There have been special signs made up to put on your door saying 'please dont trick or treat here'
All the local shops have been told not to sell eggs or flower to teenagers. Honestly its like a friggin war zone. I will be glad when its over.
And yes Diwali is encouraged. In FACT they had a big celebration for it in Trafalgar square this year. Did I miss the one for st Georges day??? I think not. There wasn't one...

Halloween?
The difference between Diwali and St George's day is that they have some very nice sticky little cakes for Diwali. And we now get lovely stuffed dates in Waitrose for the end of Ramadan as well.
St George has no such culinary delicacies and ought to get his act together.

Yes, we bought our pumpkin yesterday. Mrs BB will be buying the treats over the next couple of days.prcscct wrote:Is this night celebrated in the UK? Second, wondering if anything happens in HH concerning expat families dressing up their tots and taking them out for some fun? Pete
Mrs BB really enjoys the little kiddies coming to the door trying to frighten her. She usually keeps a count, and we inevitably get around 40 visitors. I actually got despatched to our local Tesco to re-stock on treats last year - nobody else came after that point.
However, I have to agree with Randy about the sale of eggs and flour to the (older) kids - it's banned here as well. Unfortunately we educate the kids in the UK, and they usually work it out for themselves that they need to stock up on ammo in advance

We never threw eggs in the USA, just water balloons and other mischief like soaping windows on the night before halloween. I know raw egg yolks/whites used to really damage car finishes/paint, but perhaps with the new high tech coatings it's not a big deal any longer. Pete

Be assured, while still in their original packaging, egg whites can cause quite a significant lump on the human skull as well.I know raw egg yolks/whites used to really damage car finishes/paint, but perhaps with the new high tech coatings it's not a big deal any longer.

When I was a kid, trick or treat didn't exist in the UK and IMHO is one of the worst ever American imports ever - even worse than Starbucks! I hate it with a vengance and hate snotty nosed kids turning up with nothing more than a silly mask on expecting something for gratis.
As Randy says, there are now signs for folk to obtain free basicaly telling trick or treaters not to call!
Bah!

It was deemed too British to be allowed to occur. However celebrating diwali is positivly encouraged.
I am very scared of ghosts and ghouls, so on the 27th i am going to jump on a plane and hide in Thailand for at least 28 days
