Travel Bangkok to Hua-Hin

Post by Flannel »

I arrive Bangkok september about 8-9 in the morning. My girl want me take taxi from BKK to Hua-Hin but that seems a bit expensive to me 2,500-3,000 baht. Can anyone recommend any other alternatives for this. And travelling times, prices etc.

Taxi is by far the easiest way to get to Hua Hin. After such a long flight, do you really want the hassle of getting to central Bangkok, and then looking for a bus, mini bus or train? Compare the taxi cost to what you're spending on the holiday - if you're thinking soundly, you'll realise taxi makes sense.

If you look around this forum, you'll see that a taxi should not cost more than 2,000Baht. I used a large limo last time (I need a big car), and it only cost 2,600 Baht. The same company will provide their standard service (Volvo 940/960) for 2,200Baht - no extras. I can PM the details if you wish.

Alternatively, you can book a taxi through this forum http://www.huahinafterdark.com/hua-hin-taxi.htm

Whatever you decide - have a great holiday.

I have a favorite taxi driver based in Bangkok that has driven me many kilometers thru Thailand.
I just used him on the 5th from Bangkok (near the airport) to Hua Hin and it was 2,000 Baht plus 100 Baht for the expressway.
His number is [edited by Mod] and his name is [edited by mod].
He is a very good driver (doesn't think that he is in a F1 race) which is why I use him, and his prices happen to be reasonable.

Sometimes I ride the train, it is cheaper but takes about 5 hours and then you have to rent a tuk tuk or taxi to get to/from the train stations.

You can also catch a minivan from Victory Monument in Bangkok.
I think that is about 200 Baht.

There are other options as well, but these are the only ones that I have expierence with.
I’m sure some other members will chime in with more info.

Good luck!

Is this near the MBK Center?

-I have money for my holiday luckily but have just been made redundant so might need to chop a couple of pennies.

How far and how much to get there in a taxi to Victory Monument

I've never used the mini bus service, but from what I've read it is limited space. If you have luggage, you will have to pay for at least 2 seats (one for your bags). I don't think you'll get much change (if any at all) from 1000Baht. In fact it could cost you more.

Do you really want to put youself through that hardship for 1000 Baht or less?

We used the mini bus service to a town (can't remember the name, and wife is at work). About 2 hours north of Bangkok. Cost was 800 bt, they let me, as a large farang, sit in the front seat both ways. My wife was in back, a little, but not too badly, crowded. Some stops along the way, but not many.

To HH it didn't make sense due to luggage, etc.

MBK is on the skytrain line. To get to the minivan take skytrain to Victory Monument stop. Exit from the platform down the steps and go to the right.
You will pass the turnstile and go down steps to a shopping mall with a small laneway at the side. You will see the minivans. Go up to a desk and ask for HH and the guy will tell you which desk (unless he is the HH desk). Pay 200 baht, vans every 20 mins. or so, when full they leave.
If you have lots of luggage you will have to pay an extra seat for your bags as the cargo space in the rear is quite small.
TIP: Avoid front seats, vans have no crumple zone and they sometimes drive in a hair-raising style.

Sorry, it is in Koh Phangan, October 4th. Haad rin beach (South of the island). I know it will be coach and then boat (Obviously) but I want to try to plan as much as i can now so it makes it easier in the future.

Go to any travel agent in HH, western tours are good.
Book bus+Lomprayah catamaran, one fare.
Bus leaves about 8am from clock tower (King's picture) and takes you right to ferry dock in Chumpon.
Ferry goes to Samui but stops at Phangan just before Samui.
Arrival time Phangan abot 3:30-4pm.

I'll check it out in a while today...i read in other forums these counters are stationed at C Century Mall with big beach umbrellas. Will try to post some photos . I think the middle seats should be the safest ones...(best out of the worst , in that context.)
