Look for a insurance agent in Hua Hin that carries more then one company.

One company that is a little expensive is at:

I can recommend Bupa. Had three major operations and numerous skin problems over the 8 years with above company and received good services and not once did they not pay.

I recommend to calculate with an approx. amount of 10% more every year.

In my experience there are two types of medical insurance cover. One that covers you for pre and chronic conditions and the other that doesn't. The latter is much cheaper than the former but does not provide the piece of mind that you are insured in all eventualities.

In the latter you know you are covered only after you have made a claim and then only if the cause of the claim is not a pre-condition determined by the insurer at their discretion.

Beware of any policy that does not ask for details of any pre or chronic condition or you may find that bypass operation you need is not covered due to high cholesterol levels that existed sometime in the past.

Agree with BUPA International, however when I asked BUPA HH they said I could not transfer existing conditions or previous treatment, BUPA Thailand is a completely separate policy apparently. Also BUPA International has increased annually by up to 20% and is rapidly pricing itself out of my market, particularly as my claims have been insignificant vis a vis the premiums.

I would like to add that with Bupa we are covered world-wide with the exception of USA.

I had various basil cells removed in central europe and it was paid by Bupa upon receipt of the bill.

Make sure that you have OPD-Outpatient coverage

My concern is major illness such as cancer or heart disease. So to keep the cost of insurance down which increases as you get older I have opted for in-patient treatment only preferring instead to spend the money saved on OPD on an annual executive medical check up at Bumrungrad.

Inexpensive OPD is available at local and government hospitals.

malcolminthemiddle :)

I had exactly the same concerns regarding existing conditions.

I had several quotes from specialist insurance companies (dealing with people of my age and medical conditions) who write policies in the UK for people who are travelling abroad.
The cheapest I could find was £778 for 28 days (for travel to Thailand) but excluded all my existing conditions, this quote rocketed up if I were to stay over 28 days.

I concluded that it was cheaper to travel without insurance and instead make sure funds were available in Thailand, to pay for any medical emergency that cropped up whilst I was there.
I've lost my mind and I am making no effort to find it.
