Soi 102 U Turn Opened Up Again

Post by JimmyGreaves »

After about 2 years of being closed they have opened up the U turn at soi 102 Petchakasem again.

It's a bloody death trap, 2 years ago before it was closed there was alot of deaths here and it has been much better since closed even though you have to go down to the bridge u turn to go north again.

Now traffic has to slow and stop in the middle lane to go into 102 and traffic is now being stopped in the outside lane because of the U turn.

Please beware and go all the way round to lessen your chance of an accident.

God save us!

The U-turns in general are a complete nightmare, especially on the highways, turning off the fast lane in one direction and, in many cases, having a slip road into the fast lane on the other side.

I know it's done because it's a cheap option but whoever OK'ed that idea initially has lost it.

Everytime I am approaching a U-turn across the way I am traveling with a line of cars waiting, impatiantly of course, I think "This could easily be it." Even worse if it's the middle-aged Thai guy in an articulated lorry (US - Truck) already taking up the fast lane on both sides of the highway.

When you are taking a U-turn yourself it's interesting to see that when you pull up and stop, waiting for the gap to appear and then go, almost every car/pickup etc that speeds past flashes their lights at you even though you are stationary. It just shows how little they trust each other when it comes to this sort of stuff.

If it was an accident 'hot-spot' before then it will be again. The Thais cannot be saved from themselves on this driving subject, even by the government.

Good advice. It really is that simple folks. Taking the Khao Takiab underpass turn off rather than the U-turn across Petchkasem will add a minute to your journey and possibly save your life - yours or that of the old woman with her grandson in the shopping basket of her moped coming the wrong way down Petchkasem as you complete your U-turn.

Stay safe.

That U turn was a killer and used it loads of times, always started the car flashers well before I slowed for the turn. At night we always used the underpass.

The railway crossing on 102 was even worse and we saw two fatal accidents on it.
Our neighbors on Naebkehart road were crossing one morning in a pickup when a train wiped them out and once we were driving along 102 when we heard a scream from a woman.
She had been talking to her daughter who was crossing the lines on her motorbike and talking on her mobile phone, when she copped her whack as she talked to her mum, completely oblivious of the express train hurtling towards her.

I've lost my mind and I am making no effort to find it.

Yeah, typical isn't it? Not a day goes by where I don't have to dodge someone on an MC coming out of a side road without looking or even slowing down. They need to learn that sometimes Buddha bites. Pete

I think it's the lack of a dashboard to place amulets on.
