Man Utd accept £80m Ronaldo bid

Post by Tony_S »

Manchester United have accepted a world record offer of £80m from Real Madrid for Cristiano Ronaldo.

"United have agreed to give Real Madrid permission to talk to the player," said a statement from the English club.

It added that the decision followed "Cristiano's request - who has again expressed his desire to leave".

United described the offer for the 24-year-old as unconditional and added that they expected the matter to be concluded by 30 June.

This is a big deal! I thought it all died a few months ago but I guess not.

Now I'll have to look up MU stats to see % of goals scored by him last season. Perhaps 60%?

This coming MU season will be interesting with him gone. However, who will they buy with 80M pounds? Or no one and just pay down debt? Pete

It will be hard for Manu to replace him. Although, he didn´t shine in every match he was often the one to score the decisive goals. A bit like Liverpool losing Gerrard or Chelsea losing Lampard. It´s not a matter of getting another top player to replace them but to find someone who will fit into the team so perfectly.

Talking about Liverpool, I forget his name, but the tall, lanky long legged player who scored quite a few goals 2007-08. Watching this side, I always thought he was good but they sold him to ???. Wonder if his replacement at Liverpool equaled his talent, or their standing this season suffered because he was gone? Pete

It seems to have received a mixed reception in Spain as well. One of the worst affected euro Countries in the present climate. Bearing in mind they - Real Madrid - have just spent 50mil on Kaka.

The sale price has also condemned by Platini - ex-France great and now running EUFA.

But the new (again) Real president was known as bringing together the 'Galacticos' ('scuse spelling) a few years ago and it looks like he's intent on doing it again to challenge Barca'.

A moment of genius by Sir Alex. Refuse bids from Real Madrid and getting a couple of extra years (and Champions League finals) out of him while his value appreciates. When the price is right, he sells him and gets enough for 3 or 4 quality players in return.
Championship Plymouth Argyle 1 - 2 Leeds Utd

Points 46; Position 23 RELEGATED

Crouch, came from south, went back to south. Can´t be compared to Gerrard, although they both play for England, who are now flourishing under a foreign manager. Wonderlust?

A team of champions will always be beaten by a champion team. Someone should tell those cash laden Spaniards - must have found a galleon somewhere.
No wonder the world is "stuffed" with these set of values prevailing.
Talk about crass - the Real madrid buyers would be better to invest in local talent from the slums or maybe they are trying to emulate Nero!
Stradavarius for sale anyone??

The decision to let Ronnie go was down to one man SAF and not the Glazers who have always backed him 100% which is to their credit, they let him control everything to do with the playing side of the club.
The debt that the club has is fully serviceable due to the large profits that it generates, sponsorships,TV revenue, increase in prize money for winning trophies and spin off,s make it so.
The fee whilst obscene will be recouped many times over through merchandise and marketing, when Beckham left us Real sold 1 million shirts in the first 6 months. The signing of Ronnie and Kaka is a good investment for anyone apart from the fact that they are getting 2 of the best players in the world.
English premier league clubs are at a disadvantage against Barca and Real as they do not have individual TV deals which is the main source of income for these 2 clubs. e g Barca,s TV revenue is more than 7 times that of Man Utd,s but that is another debate and one that IMHO is fairer in EPL share out,s.
Ronnie will get a massive signing on fee for sure which is the norm these days and if you believe reports that Real had a compensation package agreed with Ronnie to sign him within 2 years then that will now not have to be paid,20 million has been mentioned.
Football seems to be defying the world credit crunch at the moment for the elite clubs but many lower division clubs are really struggling at the moment and a larger share of the pot needs to be passed on to "grass roots clubs" to bring the stars of tomorrow on.Doubt it will happen in my life time though, just watch Man City splash the cash in the next 2 months, now they have some serious amounts behind them.
Most United fans will be sorry to see Ronnie go,egotistical, arrogant, stubborn, show poney, cheat and everything else you want to throw at him but a brilliant footballer who puts bums on seats.
We have lost great players before and gone on to better things team wise but we are safe in the knowledge that we have THE best manager in the world who will no doubt guide us through it......again.
Glory! Glory! Man Utd.

United were right to accept this bid for Ronaldo as,this last season, his heart has been elsewhere. He only really started turning it on the last few games when trophies were in sight.
And,dont forget,United have had 6 great seasons out of him....bought him for 12m now sold him for 80m.....an excellent bit of business by Sir Alex.
With this money they can hopefully sign Tevez. If Hargreaves fails to make it back they will need a holding midfield player such as Gattuso from AC Milan.
Getting a decent wideman looks to be the problem.Ribery is not bad but no way is he worth 40m.
But it makes it all very interesting for next season.
This last season was hardly vintage so hoping for better next time round with the bonus of the World Cup in 2010 with England and, hopefully,Eire qualiyfying.....not ruling out the Scots or N.Ireland either.

Agreed that it is a superb bit of business by Ferguson, although I doubt all the money will be made available to spend. I have heard that Valencia from Wigan may well be the replacement because Ribery has had a huge price tag slapped on him. I don't think United will actually miss Ronaldo that much, and it may enable Rooney to play in his more natural position, and possibly help Berbatov and Tevez if they stay.
Not sure why BG was asking for me at the end of his post, but Pete's question made me laugh - Crouch's replacement at Liverpool was Fernando Torres, so he more than equalled Crouch's talent! Funnily enough though, there is a rumour that Crouch might be going back to Liverpool (from Portsmouth by the way).
On the Real Madrid issue, yes it is obscene amounts of money they spend, but all of it will be recouped I should think in shirt sales and other merchandising. Apparently they are also going to sign David Villa from Valencia which will also be a large sum. There will be quite a few players leaving too I think - Ruud van Nistelrooy to start with at a cut price £1.5 million but big wages. Likely destination the Premier League apparently.

ManUre are in safe hands with fergi.... I doubt he will pay 40-60 Million for Ribery who has been playing in a sub-standard league when he can get Valencia for around 16 Million.

He only spends big sums on proven premiership players (Ferdinand, Rooney) and then spends lower amounts on overseas talents (bit like Gambling with low stakes that your happy to loose).

I think he will try for Pato (although Milan may ask too much) and Benzema and turn them into superstars.

Whatever he does he wont replace Ronaldo quickly.

Let's hope Liverpool or Arsenal can win the league next season
