Just When We Thought The Pound Was Recovering
Am I getting paranoid about this?
So why does the GBP always seem to strengthen a couple of days after my monthly pension is paid?
This month I got 8,000 Baht less than August, that's quite a few beers.

Blimey - serves you right, Governor, for having such a big pension!Governor wrote:This month I got 8,000 Baht less than August, that's quite a few beers.

This is the way
@57 gwah to the quid in aug down to 52 this month = a difference of 5 baht gwah per quid is the loss on a pension of £1600 a month approx
Or in aug 91,200 this month 83,200
or 8000 baht @ 40 Bt per large bottle elephant pee = 200 bottles per month
or 6.66 large bottles per night
Or Gov you are an alcoholic and need AA
Or you are a nice happy cheerfull chappy and will pop round a buy me one
Dont buy Buksi any he is on the wagon LOL

Thanks for all the sympathy
Thanks for all the sympathy you lot, someone once told me that if you are looking for sympathy "It's in the dictionary between sh*t and syphilis"
Nice try at trying to work out how much my pension is Sarge, I should have expected someone with too much time on their hands to do that, I liked the comparrison with the price of beer - nice one
The googly in your calculations is that mine is a civil service pension and as I no longer have a UK bank has to be paid in Baht purchased by my pension provider in the UK, that costs me a bit more and varies from month to month, I can see you all pulling out the tissues as I speak. Working on that now which should result in a couple more beers, hells bells no lets try and buy a bottle of wine.
Thank you all for your concerns
lets all hang in there.

Just when we thought the pound was recovering
On the subject of pensions, when I reached the official retiring age the UK pension service knew, somehow, that I was no longer a UK resident. I didn`t tell them. Could this be linked to the government`s all embracing surveillance policy, i.e. tracking e~mails, or could there be a less sinister reason?

Inland Revenue (sorry HMRC) maybe?Arcadian wrote:On the subject of pensions, when I reached the official retiring age the UK pension service knew, somehow, that I was no longer a UK resident. Or maybe they can track you via the HHAD website.
Too right, how many times has it shot up only to rollercoaster back down over the last year. Up about 15% from the low point at beginning of the year, but next week .....Governor wrote:Sshhhhhh, don't tempt providence.BaaBaa. wrote:It's hit 55 today.

Careful now. Personally, I couldn't give a Gnats Arse, but, if you want to bring it up again.
I think most have forgotten about your little tit for tat with this other member, except, of course, one Agnes Rat. You obviously realise he doesn't post much at all these days, but if you'd like to start it off again, I'll happily take the reigns up on his behalf, seeing as he is incapacitated at the moment and lying in hospital again.

Re: Just when we thought the pound was recovering
But who did you tell? Your employer to have occ pension paid elsewhere - guess who they have to notify? An agent looking after a property you are renting out? Guess who they have to notify and so on ad infinitum.Arcadian wrote:On the subject of pensions, when I reached the official retiring age the UK pension service knew, somehow, that I was no longer a UK resident. Nothing so sinister as checking emails and the like, just others complying with the law.
Pesnioners claiming there increase abroad without declaring their true circumstances is well on the radar of HMRC and other agencies
Talk is cheap

If they do have this capability it's used selectively as you have to tell them when you're out of the country and you want to stop paying tax!Arcadian wrote:On the subject of pensions, when I reached the official retiring age the UK pension service knew, somehow, that I was no longer a UK resident.
