After reading the last 4 pages and really fancying an Indian meal for a change, we decided to go to the Indian buffet at S'mor Spa tonight.

And I'm really glad we did - phoned and booked beforehand as advised.
When we arrived, there was a table reserved for us with a printed sign of our name on the table and real cloth napkins.

As already mentioned, the setting is fabulous, right by the beach - and spotlessly clean.

We were immediately greeted by Sam, the owner, who proved to be a very attentive host all evening.
Drink prices were very reasonable, with a bottle of decent Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon at 650 baht.

We got there at 7 p.m. and the buffet was scheduled to start at 7.30 p.m.
There were around 50 people there in all, but it was a very relaxed atmosphere because there's plenty of space.

Before the buffet opened, waiters came around a couple of times with pieces of chicken tikka and samosas, both of which were delicious.
A plate of these starters was then delivered to every table.

This was a very smart move because, when the buffet opened soon afterwards, there was no panic of starving people rushing to the buffet to get all they could as quickly as possilbe - the immediate hunger pangs had already been satisfied.

So everything was very civilised without any long queues at the buffet table.

So, to the buffet: it was extensive with around 11 different dishes to choose from.
Now, I am by no means an expert when it comes to Indian food.
I can only say that there was a great variety of food, including chicken, mutton, vegetable (including saag aloo) and roti bread, biriyani dishes, etc. and everything tasted extremely good - there was definfitely an Indian chef there as we saw him throwing the dough to make the bread.

My Thai gf also found enough dishes there to even make her go back for seconds, after which she decided that Indian food actually is good.

And, then, as we were all getting full, the live music started, with a duo (Philippino, I would guess) singing middle of the road songs - they were not too loud, the girl had a very nice voice and, all in all, it really suited the relaxed atmosphere with the full moon over the gulf.

We stayed for nearly 3 hours and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience.

Will we go back again - absolutely!! We'll try it in the daytime on the next occasion to enjoy the surroundings and the view more.

Many thanks to Sam and his staff for a great evening :thumb:

Barry,

Did they happen to mention if this was going to be a regular weekly buffet or was it a "one off".
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Hi hhfarang,

Yes, as JG says, it's every second Saturday, so I imagine the next one will be on February 9.

Great to see you back on the forum, by the way :D

...Thanks posters!

My wife and I went to last Saturday's buffet at the Smor Spa on your advice - and really enjoyed it. Good food, good atmosphere and great location.

I'd say good value on the whole at 350bht a head but I'm loathed to pay 120bht for a large Chang when I've been enjoying it for 1/2 that price at the local restaurants.

The owner Sam was a good, welcoming host and very attentive to diners.

Thanks for the tip ! :D

Is he the Sam that opened a Vietnamese Restaurant next to Market village, that is now called something else? Is he Indian or Thai? :|

Well, further to the other Indian Food thread, we went to S'mor Spa last night to celebrate Mrs D-M's birthday and were not disappointed.

Having been there for lunch several times, this was a completely different atmosphere. Pleasant middle-of-the-road music that was good enough not to make you think of Thai karaoke and quiet enough not to intrude on conversation.
A wide range of excellent food, with the starring item a portion of sumptuous tender barbecued lamb. Daal was delicious, potato samosas much appreciated, naan bread was okay - difficult to mass produce for a buffet, I imagine.
The owner, Sam, is a very nice chap and a natural host with a very relaxed and friendly approach. I'd called him in advance to make sure there would be some daal and veggie samosas, but I hadn't asked for any special treatment - nevertheless, after we had finished eating, the band sang Happy Birthday and Sam appeared with a cake and an appropriately diplomatic number of candles. On the house.
Mrs D-M was chuffed to bits.

So, many thanks to S'mor Spa for a lovely meal, though we didn't stay all that long. And that was just as well because the traffic was abominable - half an hour to get from the Polyclinic to S'mor Spa and the same going the other way. Mainly due to the Cicada Market.

350 baht a head + drinks. We are now on Sam's distribution list. (These buffets are usually, but not always, every two weeks.)
This is the way

Went back to Smor Spa last Saturday (with Mr and Mrs bapak) after not being there for a month or so.

Every time we have been there, the food has been excellent, but on Saturday they even surpassed themselves with some new wonderfully tasting dishes. The range of flavours was exceptional.

Added to that, there was a different (Filipino) duo playing and they were really good - the guy was a pretty decent guitarist in his own right and the girl singer was outstanding, effortlessly hitting high C's with absolute pitch and clarity.

It was a great night - and another bonus is that Sam has reduced the price from 350 to 350 baht for the low season, and that still includes roast lamb.
