In my case how do I get from Khon Kaen to Hua Hin without flying to Chang Mai and road down through Kanchanamburi?
I fly out in 2 weeks and my GF and Son are supposed to be getting the Korat-Hua Hin Bus after travelling from Surin.

I'll be on my flight as long as they don't start blocking routes around the country.

If all that is really happening (not in the English language Press yet) and continues to be the case, I think you could still use the outer ring road but the exits into the city would be blocked. From KK you just circle around and exit on the road south to HH. Pete

Couldn't honestly tell you Richard, I've done it several times but haven't taken any notice, I seem to recall going past the 3 headed Elephant statue on the highway running alongside BKK, could even be wrong on that though.

I don't drive longhaul in Thailand so I'm useless with highway names etc.

Hopefully somebody else can inform you and me.

I remember it went round the outskirts of Bangkok nowhere near the central areas.

There is no way that the Government have the resources to block off access to Bangkok, there are just too many ways in and out. The whole city depends on road transport to get daily deliveries of fresh food just for a start, as well.

They were not able to stop more red shirts arriving a few days ago, when they knew just which road they would be using. I think that it is just another example of the media miss-reporting what it happening.

There was an earlier report that there was "gunfire" at the Nana intersection, which has not been mentioned again. I will say that what I can see of Sukhumvit Road, and the Expressway, at Phrakhanong, it is deserted- I was out to the Supermarket at Ekamia this morning, and the traffic was very light then also.

The 3 headed Elephant that is mentioned is on the new section of expressway that is an extension of the outer ring road (9) that Pete mentioned.

Hi Nereus, reports on the other Thailand "Alternative" Forum talk of heavy gunfire being heard, this is also from people living in BKK, possibly closer to the action?

Keep us updated on what you're seeing/hearing from your end.

The Elephants Rhama 9 then?

No, BaaBaa, it`s not Rama 9. Have a look here:

http://www.thai-blogs.com/index.php/200 ... oad?blog=5

It is in Samut Phrakan, on the road that goes to the new bridge that you would use going from the Airport to Hua Hin.

Yes, I would not hear gunfire where I am. My Soi is off Rama 4 Road, but at the eastern end of it. Reports are saying part of this road is now closed, from Silom to where the Klong Toey Market is.

I now believe that the report of closing off Bangkok is the reporting of the Government trying to isolate the area IN Bangkok where the red shirts are.

BaaBaa, that's Highway 9 with the three headed elephant.

Meanwhile:
(Bnagkok Post)
At least five people were killed and 45 others were injured in clashes between anti-government protesters and troops in Bangkok on Friday, the government's Erawan Emergency Centre reported on Friday evening.

About 2pm at Sala Daeng intersection near the protest venue of the anti-government United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) at Ratchaprasong, a civilian - Prachuap Jiraphand - was killed after being shot in the chest and 11 people were wounded.

At 4.30pm, nine more people were injured in confrontations at Witthayu intersection. A Thai cameraman and a foreign journalist were among the injured.

From 5.30pm to 6.30pm, three more people were wounded at Witthayu intersection.

Police General Hospital chief medical officer Jongjet Aowajenpong said another civilian - Piyapong Kittiwong - was shot dead after a bullet hit him in the head. He said Somsak Siriluk, another civilian, was also killed by a gun shot.

Kluaynamthai Hospital director Suvinai Busarakamwongs said 48-year-old civilian Saneh Nilluang was shot in the left chest.

He said two patients suffered lung bleeding. Suregeons had operated and medical staff were closely monitoring their condition.

A late report said a soldier was killed by an M79 grenade explosion in Pratunam area.

AS HIS peace plan descended into open warfare in Bangkok, Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva went to ground yesterday, raising concerns he has almost lost control of his government, the army and the streets of the capital.

Sorry, crap story. He's picked up pieces from other stories and by the by or by the buy contacts, whichever. It's shallow. I doubt he's even on the ground here IMHO. Pete

UK media reporting 7 dead including one red-shirt idiot pointing a laser pen at soldiers, also a report of a policeman shooting at the army. Apparantly the police are called tomatoes, red on the outside, red in the middle. Also either Sky or BBC reporter on the ground says that the protestors are confined to the southeast corner of the square and no restrictions elsewhere.
