Richard: Why do you go to those type of bars? I've certainly nothing against them, but I always thought that they were for free agents (so to speak). Surely there are other bars in the area, where you can sup your ale, which don't have the pretty girls charging for drinks?
Heck, I don't know, I'm just curious (and confused).

I hear what you say but bars change so quickly these days. One minute it's a friendly place that you've used for months or even years and then it changes almost overnight.
In 2 of the bars I used to frequent I knew everybody and they knew me and the wife and no hassle at all. They changed in a matter of days. Incidentally in both cases there was no sign of the farang boss. Either gone home or sold up

It’s none of my business what people say and think of me. I am what I am and do what I do. I expect nothing and accept everything. It makes life so much easier.

You're right BB, is that to do with in places like Bangkok they have computerised bills? Whereas here they are running totals on one bit of paper, so would have to take it back in lay it on top of the pad to 'carbon copy' update it.
Here some of the bars struggle with running water and toilet paper, let alone a 90's till
Hua Hin is small enough that if a bar was doing it all the time word would soon get around.

IMHO bins should always always be placed in front of the customer in the little pot. Unfortunately with some staff it's a difficult rule to enforce - as it can involve actually making the effort to walk from behind the bar and taking 2 or 3 steps to the customers table.
So - deliver bin with drink I hear you say? Nope - that won't work either. It involves too much multitasking.
Seriously though, surely any responsible bar keep will 'cap' the LD rate at a reasonable amount, and try to make sure the staff don't try it on. Also it should be remembered that customers don't just buy LDs as a precursor to a BF. Often it's plain oldfashioned courtesy and appreciation.

That was my concern about the single copy on the table system but in three years of numbered single copy bills only one disappeared out of many tens of thousands.Big Boy wrote:I've also heard stories of beer chits disappearing from the little cup. If the customer does destroy the bill then you find out when he wants to leave. Of course it is much more difficult to monitor in a large bar like Craig's place or Happy Toro. My solution for that would be cameras and a sign explaining that it is a criminal offence not to pay for what you have ordered. They were doing that in Pattaya when I was there 7 years ago.
It's all a trade off between security and friendliness. On the few times when bills were questioned my wife would generally just knock the drink off the bill especially if they had been in the bar before. They would always come back again and spend more money.
?QUE? I only understood "name and shame" and "short time" from that post. Against Ts & Cs I think. I never got involved with short time or long time.raphoedon wrote:ok guest as a frequent short time tourist, tell me and the rest of us (stt)which bars. name and shame
The bars that do, and have in the past, sponsored this site are generally reputable as are the bars that have had the same owners for years. Most of the smarter landlords/ladies who are usually in the bar are very strict with staff that fiddle customers.
In a general statement I would say that the ones to steer clear of are the ones that have been bought for a BG by a farang who has since buggered off or is permanently pissed.

As is the topic of acronyms. I have never seen that one before and standard convention is to use uppercase.raphoedon wrote:short time tourist (stt) its in the thread
I am sure I am not the only one who hadn't heard of it before. It looks like a typographical errjssr.

I've seen guys wad them up and swallow them, as well as gently rest their burning cigarette up against one and the entire cup full goes up in smoke. In neither case were they trying to get away with something. The first was to get a reaction from the staff, and he did.Big Boy wrote:I've also heard stories of beer chits disappearing from the little cup.
