Interesting discussion of compliments and anti-compliments. I can understand the differences in being candid (Thai) versus being PC (Farang).
What totally floors me is when our country-boy, very unsophisticated Thai gardener tells me "suay" when I go outside dressed for work in very Western-style business dress. How does this guy judge "suay" when I'm a farang woman dressed to teach at an American-style university? Maybe he's been watching too many Western movies??? It's just one of Thai life's many mysteries.
As we are on the topic of UK style banter which western movies do you think he has been watching ? Disclosure ? The devil in miss Jones ? If he gets hold of copy of Mandingo he may get ideas well above his station .
