mrburger canal road

Post by bill »

in a word yuck. tried signature dish hamburger. 2 on 1-10. meat was small, smelled funny, taste bad. bun was not toasted or grilled[basic requirement]. fries were good. wife had thai meal and did not finish, insult to cooking. it was lousy. i tried simple chicken fried rice and they blew that. rice was wet,soggy.yuck. menu was extensive and looked good. we were going to bring kids and sister's family because they had alot of stuff for them. gong. no dice.once was enought. i'll say this the place is fine to look at with ponds and landscaping. neat seating arrangment with several different areas to dine. if they could get their food right,well...........

new cook??

Post by Chas »

Bill, I have to agree.

We have often gone to this restaurant, in part because it has a nice country location not too far from where we live. . .and ambiance (it is on a big pond with trees & orchids around etc. . .as well as the fact that we can bring the dog. ( We eat in one of the salas away from the main dining room where there are sometimes other dogs and a grassy area where we can tie her.

We were there Sunday night and were very disappointed with the food. The wait staff is all new to us and we figure that they must also have a new cook. (Obviously some sort of big upheaval in the personell department.)

They had also raised their prices with new little stickers on every item.( In low season? With a new cook?)

The lab moo was inedible and I think it is still in our refridge (my spouse ordered something else in its stead and brought it home thinking it might improve with age I guess.) I had pineapple rice and it was OK ( once I got that dreadful hairy pork stuff off the top) and the dog ate all her chicken and rice. ( But that is really not a good measure of palatability as she will also eat dead frogs.)

We didnt see the owners either. We know them and have chatted with them from time to time when we have eaten at the Burger #1 on the main road. We would have spoken to them about the food if we had seen them. But we both agreed that the food was NOT good.

It is a pity. I have eaten at all of them over the years and bought produce from the shop. They have always been good value and the food has always been good although I wouldn't go there to eat Thai food.

Maybe a major change of staff or has he sold up perhaps. Increased prices , especially when you eat thins like burgers, steaks and fries is bound to go up as the costs are rising.

Big shame if they have lost the plot. This was one of the best places around - nice setting, friendly staff, good food, reasonable prices (and 2 minutes from home). Let's hope they get it right again soon.

Do we speak from the one located about 1 km after 3 girls when heading north ? Mister Burger 3 ?

If yes, sorry guys but I do not agree with you. I ate in this restaurant maybe 20 times in the past 6 weeks and I always got good food. People are friendly, location is convenient, beer is cool and you have a nice atmosphere.

Concerning prices, the more foreigners you have in a Thai restaurant, the higher are the prices. It is not specific to M Burger3...

To be honest, I always got Thai food and it was OK. Sometime maybe a little bit too spicy (I use to eat spicy...). And if I go for westerner food, I do not go in a Thai restaurant.

I know K. Oy and it's a very good place. I went there a couple of time with all my family and they do appreciate the place. My granddaughter was found of their baby girl...

Haven't been to MrB3 for a while now but used to regularly, never had a problem with the food or service there.

It would be a shame if this place has gone down hill, could be related to this:

Mr Burger CANAL ROAD!

Post by Chas »

As the thread is entitled "Mr Burger canal road" is obviously not one of the other Mr. Burger's I dont know the number of this one, but it is the only one on canal road to my knowledge. ( What 3 girls ?)

I believe the original owners opened three "Mr Burger's", one is in the first building south of the 7/11 on Petchkasem, right next to the failed Hua Hin Horizon development. That one may still be OK and so might the other.. .wherever it is located.

Maybe they just gave the cook and the staff the week off, but Mr Bill's post was right on the money and we were there within a day of his post.

Have any of you who rave about the place been there this week?

JW are you describing Ms Oy's or Mr Burger?

It WAS one of our favorites too, but right now we are not very excited or encouraged to give it another try.

And this thread is not about finding a good restaurant ( god knows there are plenty of them in town, many with their own threads, HHAD ads and ratings etc) it is about what happened to spoil this particular previously pleasant eatery.

It is also, in my case, not a complaint about rising prices (this Mr. Burger has always offered good food at reasonable prices) it is just that this price raise came with a drastic decline in food quality and a complete change of waitstaff. That is what seems fishy.

As the thread is entitled "Mr Burger canal road" is is obviously NOT a Mr. Burger 1 km up Petchkasem ? and what is "Three Girls" anyway? I dont know the number of this one, but it is the only one on canal road.
You’re all talking about the same place Chas, Mr. Burger 3 is about a kilometer north of another restaurant on the canal road called “Three Girls”.

Just near the junction with Soi 6, at Bo Fai.

Speaking of which, has anyone eaten in the new(ish) bar by the railway line in Bo Fai? Just interested to see if it's ok and an alternative to Mr Burger??

Things are getting confused now.

The original Mr. Burger as I know it was (or is) in Bo Fai on Petkasem west side just before a large gas station. It is at the end of a terrace with a shop and restaurant at the side. It had no number which would imply that it was the first. It has been there at least five years and was selling Burgers and Lamb legs and chops before JD took HHM&B over.

The second one is in the road that heads off the klong road towards Tipperwan and also has "After Work" in it. That is another farang/Thai restaurant worth a try and has big screen TV.

The third one is somewhere on the Klong road on the Petkasem side around the Bo Fai area.

The three girls (Sam Poo Ying) restaurant is on the right (Petkasem side) of the Klong road just as you are leaving Bo Fai and heading into the countryside. Past Soi 6 I think.

Khun Oy is in Soi 94 right next to the railway crossing. It is owned by the guy who used to have the restaurant on the corner of Soi 88 and the station road. It was a successful formula there but has improved now there is more space. Much English Spoken including by the boss. The best budget farang food in Hua Hin IMHO.

I know of at least three more establishment in Hua Hin selling reasonably priced farang food if anybody is interested.

BTW. Has anybody tried Richard's Fish & Chip shop (The Hua HIn original) in the railway soi opposite the old southern bus stop?

Not sure about the rest of them Guess, but "The three girls" (Sam Poo
Ying) is BEFORE Mr Burger going North on the Klong Rd, and Mr Burger 3 is just before Soi 6 as Jim has stated. I have been to Mr Burger many times, but not in the past few weeks. A couple of weeks ago I went to Sam Poo Ying, and it is well worth a visit, both for the food and the surroundings.
