Food in Cha Am
I'm looking for a Thai restaurant in Cha Am.
Does anyone have a favorite place there ?
Thanks in advance.

For regular Thai food we ate at either relatives, or hole in the walls I couldn't explain to you how to find.
For Thai style seafood, go along the beach road towards the fishing area and just before the road turns to gravel, on your right, you'll see a large sign for Krua Medsai Seafood which is right on the beach.
For the Thai style where you get a big pot of broth and order the meats, and veggies that you want (and you cook on tour table) I'll give a shot, maybe Jockey or T.I.G.R. or another Cha Am resident can help.
When you turn off the Petchakasim road on the main Cha Am road towards the beach, turn left on your first main road. A couple km's down on your right, on a corner, is a outdoor restaurant with tin roof, large dirt parking lot, many tables under the tin roof. Good food, cheap prices

Well, I just wanted to go elsewhere than in HH. Usually, I don't care and I go where it seems to be good. But here, as I know there is an expat community in Cha-Am, I just wanted to show my family other restaurants in other towns, with a preference for the checked one...

My personal favourite Restaurant is just outside Cha Am and is behind the Regent Hotel. If you are coming from Cha Am go past the entrance for the Hotel and take the next left where you see a yellow sala and follow the round into the small village, turn right at the crossroads and it is on your left, you can park at the side.
The place is called Tom Yum Gung Restaurant and whilst it is open air the decor is very good with beautiful table and chairs. They have what has to be one of the most extensive menus you will see anywhere with both Thai and Western food and some oddities like Crockodile,Osrich and Deer on the menu, tried the Cockodile which was delicious. The owner is a nice Thai guy who will tell you where all the food comes from.
Prices are fantastic for food and drink,40 Bt for a Singha and 80 Bt for a Magarita.
Another place I visit a lot is Aroi Restaurant which is 200 mtrs before you get to Crawfords on the same side.Thai food here is always good but they do the best English breakfast in Cha Am IMHO. for 100 Bt

I have lived in Cha Am for 2.5 years and I am very disapointed with the quality of restaurant here. I know you said Thai restaurant, but here is the ones I would recommend which are not all Thai...
If you are feeling flush go to the Alila hotel for top notch ferang food. Expensive but a very pleasant experience in unique surroundings.
The Grand Pacific hotel is weird. No expense has been spared for this hotel, yet there are no customers. The thai food is expensive and ordinary, but the Chinese restaurant is well worth a visit (expect to be in a big room with no other customers though).
On the theme of no customers you could try THE VALLEY which is on the way out of Cha Am heading north. Its on Phetkasem Road about 6 km north of Cha Am on the left hand side at the Factory Outlet. The food here is excellent also but once again no customers!
I highly recommend Baan Issan which has 2 different restaurants on the road from Hua Hin to Cha Am. The food is good and the prices cheap. From Hua Hin the first Baan Issan is across from Him Nam San Sai (Style Bar). The restaurant is on the left hand side driving north to Cha Am. Further north past the ISUSU garage there is another Baan Issan. Look out for the big Cockerals at the front. You can go there afternoons or evenings.
Finally, you should try the Fish Restaurants at the harbour at the north of the main beach stretch. Just carry on along the beach front till you can go no further. They sell fresh seafood here.
Bon Apetite!

Last month I had an excellent plate of chilli crabs at, I think, the second one of these restaurants on the left; the best I've ever eaten. I don't know the name of the place but apparently it's been featured in Thai magazines. Finally, you should try the Fish Restaurants at the harbour at the north of the main beach stretch. Medsai is still good but don't go on a Sunday lunchtime as it's packed out.
To be honest, I do believe that the difference between Cha Am and HH restaurants should be negligible... But why to stay only in HH ? 2 days ago, we had food in Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park. The food itself wasn't exceptional but people there were so friendly with us...Guess wrote:I would never have believed you could have 9 posts on eating in Cha Am.
I'm sure food in CA will be very similar to the one in HH but why to remain limited to Hua Hin ?

Here's #11
Just behind Springfield there is a seafood restaurant called Suan Weang......or something close to that.
They have sitting areas on both the beach and road side. It is the busiest place I've seen in the area with many people driving down from Bangkok just to eat there.......(that's what the wife says).
I generally stay as far away from seafood as possible but I actually like this place. Big servings of fried rice, huge shrimp/prawns, whatever, lots of great Grouper dishes fried and otherwise, boatloads of crabs etc. etc....and those are only the things I will eat....plenty of others as well.
Not the cheapest place in town but on a farang budget definitely worth the drive.
