Hopefully Villa will add more quality product to the town - this may cost a bit more but isnt that the way of the world.

Some things much dearer than local suppliers, some competitive .

Last night I served a portobello mushroom and gorgonzola salad with duck breast and a black cherry red wine reduction .Foccacia on the side with olive oil and balsamic vinegar dip .

Including char sui spring rolls as a starter around 150 Bt per head for the entire meal .Wine blew the budget as always with the girls

The arrival of villa will not change my shopping habits at all .(with the exception of florida ruby red grapefruit juice,to which I am close to addicted ) .It will simply make my time in Bangkok less stressful as I do not have to go to villa for everybody anymore . :D

That was obviously after I went. I was hoping for something like that & there was nothing.

I just asked if he could get those things in the future.

Where have you been shopping? I've been able to get them for ages. Minifarm, for example?

The salad greens at Minifarm are okay, I meant things like arugala, metzuna, spring mixes etc.

Again, no idea where you've been shopping. The only improvement in dairy I saw (unless you want to spend loads) was Greek style yoghurt for 19bt. That was good. As for the red meat - without tasting it (which would be the ultimate test), again, comparable or better (in price & availability) has been available in HH for a while (IMO)
You have a point on the red meat, haven't tasted it yet but have never had a steak from Tesco that was better than shoe leather. Please tell me if you know where I can get that and I will surely check it out...Thanks

Last time in BKK I bought some meats (lamb and ribeye steak) from Villa. Prices are considerably higher than what I pay here in Southern California 880bt/ kilo for the ribeye (didn't write down the lamb price). Quality was good, not great. Don't know the grading of meats in other countries, here are best count down from prime to choice to select. I'd rate the meats as choice.

But as I mentioned price was probably 2-2.5 times what I pay locally here.

Yes, but where you are they just nip out the back, jump on a hoss, rope in a steer and ask you which bit you want!

It's like shopping for fish in HH!

We buy beef from the wet market. It's a bit dot and carry one as the cuts here are not the same as the UK, but if you leave it in the fridge for a day or so or longer, then it's not so chewy. If you bash it, then it can be even better. The beef in Tescos is the same, but overpriced. The best mince can be bought in the wet market, get the lass to put it through the mincer twice and (in my opinion) it's far better than the mince in the UK. You can see what she's chopping up and it's usually too lean, which is maybe not a bad thing. I used to work in a butcher's shop when I was a teen and the rubbish (including packets of goodness knows what) that goes into mince is not nice.

Don't be worried about trying to explain what you want in Thai. If you can't speak the lingo just point at the meat and put your finger up for 1 kilo. If you want mince, just point at the machine. :)

Well, I've always liked a challenge. Mind you, I won't try catching a steer with a fishing rod again.

... but make sure you don't get your finger too close to the mincer!

Agree with you about the mince, VS, but as far as steaks are concerned, I've yet to find better than a nicely sized chunk of (probably Thai, although they have more expensive imported options) tenderloin at Macro, sliced as thick as you want.

We went yesterday to check it out as well.... looks like the parking will very soon be too small, and the width of the middle aisles is rather narrow to pass each other.
Did like what we saw and will definitely shop there for some specialities like cheese, jam, wine, etc...

Thanks Hugh, I dont let it get to me. (I wouldnt still be here on HHAD if it did.) I dont mind discussing the political, social, societal problems/situation of any country, America included, but I dont like the gratuitous "dump on America" attitude that sometimes surfaces here.

Passed by Villa Market last night and took one look at the jammed parking lot and moved on to Tesco Lotus and the big Mall.

I suddenly realized that one big advantage the Mall will always have is the one-stop shopping aspect. Park once and get a choice of restaurants, drug stores, Home pro and a supermarket.

Still I will have to check it out and will do so some morning or early afternoon perhaps.
