Jellyfish

Post by Little treefrog »

A girl died in Koh Lanta due to jellyfish, and it seems to have been a box jellyfish (Seawasp). My question is do this nasty things exist in the water in Hua Hin?

I wondered what some of the girls I overheard on Bintabaht were talking about.

Marine experts will probably prove me wrong, but I'm sure that the box jellyfish never gets out much past Northern Australia. There are reports of some being found in Indonesia and maybe the Philippines, but not Thailand, AFAIA.
However, there are small ones out there, as has been said, and they can be pretty nasty. I've seen people pretty scarred up by them here in HH.
The worst time for them will be during the rainy season as the seas get heavier and they're washed into shore.
