That's well said, Mags.
I used to have customers staying in the resorts up Cha-Am way - The Regent (as was) I particularly remember - who got really worried about getting home if not in the shuttle bus.
Nearing the end of their stay, they'd get "adventurous" and remain out after 9pm. We always said that a taxi could be arranged for them easily. After they'd been dirty stopouts, they were back the next night wondering why they hadn't done the same thing on their first night!!
And yes, there were "welcoming notes" in their rooms when they arrived. Amongst other thing, they warned not to stay out late at night and at all costs to avoid Soi Bintabart.
What utter rubbish.
At the time, I asked a number of people to bring me the "welcoming note". I never did see one, but have no doubt that they did and still do exist.
The only thing the visitors woke up with the next day was a sore head

So maybe Hua Hin Hilton is a Thai 'sister' to Paris Hilton - I can think of several girls who would fit that picture.

I have stayed at the Sofitel and had no sign of bad noting the town area. We drank and enjoyed the facilities during the day and then went where ever we wanted at night.

Used the Jazz bar at night whenever we wanted to do, No dearer than comperable places in UK or Australia

If you are staying in somewhere like the Sofitel/Hilton on holidays you should be able to afford the bar prices. If not book somewhere more suitable to your budget.

I've never been the the disco at the Hilton, and reading what's been written, I don't think I really want to.

It is a little bit 'scary' for tourists to go off the beaten track and find places that aren't recommended by the hotel they're staying in, and of course the hotel would prefer them to spend their holiday spending money in their establishment.

Chelsea: I do hear what you say about the hotel bar prices, but when I came here on holiday (over 12 years ago) I didn't really expect to pay UK prices for drinks. From memory I paid under 300 pounds (B&B) for a week's holiday in what's now the Anantana Resort. Ate there once, spent the rest of the time getting tuk-tuks to downtown Hua Hin.

This is going totally off topic, and I apologise, but, Ralphsandbag - whenever I see your name I read it as Ralphs Handbag. I'm sure you haven't got one, but, if you have, I do hope it's an original Gucci.

Chelsea,

I wonder if a comment from a Thai holidaying in the UK would be 'Mmm the price of a drink is pretty comparable with Thailand'. I think not!

As the average Thai seems to drink Thai Whisky, I very much doubt it. They'd probably buy a bottle of whisky in Thailand for the price of a shot of whisky in the UK.

A wise man once told me."NEVER EVER" eat anything left on the bar or on the tables. the reason why, people go to the toilet ,dont wash their hands and come back and stick em straight it to the freebies...
wise words i think.

BB/HHTel, what I am saying about drink prices is Hilton/Sofitel type places is that even though dearer than normal Thai bar prices they were still cheaper than I pay in my local pub in Australia, so to me represents good value.

You mention the UK, I think you will find that if you drink in a Hilton/Sofitel type place over there or anywhere in Europe, you will still pay a lot more to drink there than here in Thailand.

As I said in a previous post, I was back in the UK this time last year for the 1st time for the 1st time for 25 years and found drink prices very reasonable comparing them to what we pay for a pint here in Perth.

This is what I have found, I know that others will have differing opinions, and know that it would be deemed on the dear side for the locals, but for holidays I still find it affordable and enjoyable.

Good point Stubby. Theres some mucky folk around! And I can't be the only one to have dotted ash in the peanuts either...

Lomu - I did actually see one of the hotels hazard warnings once. Can't remember where from, but we had a couple who were staying at the Dusit one time. They couldn't hack it and booked into Hare and Hounds for their last few nights - and you know how basic that was!
Then I had some 'counter attack' flyers printed and snuck them under doors in the Sofitel. Even left a pile on one of the posh tables in the lobby, but they probably didn't stay there very long. TIT.
