Found - dog with half a face. Khao Pitak/Bon Kai

Post by DawnHRD »

Can I first preface this with a warning? Some of the details here are fairly gruesome, if you are at all squeamish, please do not read this post

This evening while feeding "my" street dogs I came across a strange dog to the area. He appeared lost, wasn't accepted by the usual dogs, so I'm sure he's not from this immediate area.

Basically, the right hand side of his face was ripped open from eye to nose & right down his cheek. I managed to catch him & take him to the vet, where he is staying for a few days while we finish with the "new" dog center.

The reason for posting this is: I have reason to believe he is an owned dog, probably (but not 100% sure) by Thais. He is wearing a blue fabric collar, he is very good natured & trusting & someone had been trying to treat him. He had 'maggot powder' in his wound (a white powder that kills & prevents maggots) & had only about half a dozen dead maggots right up in his eye socket - no other maggots anywhere. He is also very well nourished & looked after. If anyone lives in the Khao Pitak/Bon Kai area and hears of anyone looking for a missing dog with these injuries, please tell the owners we have him & contact me. We'll pay for his treatment & even keep him till he's 100% healthy, if the owner wishes, but it would be better for all if he eventually went back to an owner that obviously cares for him.

Other features: quite big - about 22kg, I estimate. Brown (chestnut), about 1 to 2 years old. Not neutered (male), lovely brave, trusting temperament.

Thanks for your attention.
