I’ve just watched the penalty shootout between England and Sweden ladies in the Euro quarter finals. To say the standard of penalty was pretty low, would be an understatement but after numerous misses by both teams, England won 3-2. England had trailed 2-0 but managed to get the equaliser late in the second half to force extra time and then penalties.

I've just taken a look and have to agree. A few defensive errors as well.

I'm not really fussed about womans football, but having seen the reports about the penalties, just had a look.

Are there different rules between mens and womans football for goalies moving too early. before the ball was kicked? Because I thought in all three of the Swedish keepers saves, when she dived to the right, I thought she moved early. Especially for Englands 2nd & 3rd penalties, and more marginal on the 6th.

Yes, I've just taken another look, nearly every penalty, both keepers moved before the ball was kicked.

The rules governing penalties.

https://www.thefa.com/football-rules-go ... nalty-kick

The defending goalkeeper must remain on the goal line, facing the kicker, between the goalposts until the ball is kicked. The goalkeeper must not behave in a way that unfairly distracts the kicker, e.g. delay the taking of the kick or touch the goalposts, crossbar or goal net.
When the ball is kicked, the defending goalkeeper must have at least part of one foot touching, in line with, or behind, the goal line.

^ But don't just about all "Men's" Goalkeepers move before the kick? I've seen plenty of "Star Jumps" before the penalty kick....

[EDIT] I find the feigning of injury in order to have a player "Carded", or abuse of the Referee/Officials far worse. But of course there are far more rules broken and ignored in the so called Beautiful Game (at much higher levels)....

Yes, but thats just trying to distract the penalty taker. Once that little charade is finished, the goalie stands still until the penalty is taken. And it's not unusual for kicks to be retaken where the keeper made a save and it's deemed they did move before the actual kick.
