Again, I'm not anti EV, but have major concerns over the production of critical components and the countries/governments who care far less for the environment over financial gain. EVs are far from the wonder "Green Card" in my book.

Race to Mine Metals for EV Batteries Threatens Marine Paradise

"Stark images, captured from a drone by environmental campaigners and shared with the BBC, appear to show how nickel mining has stripped forests and polluted waters in one of the most biodiverse marine habitats on Earth.

The Raja Ampat archipelago - a group of small islands in Indonesia's Southwest Papua Province - has been dubbed the "Amazon of the Seas".

But mining for nickel - an ingredient in electric vehicle batteries and in stainless steel - has ramped up there in recent years, according to the organisation Global Witness, external.

In a move that was welcomed by campaigners, the Indonesian government this week revoked permits for four out of five mining companies operating in the region."

I’m guessing that photo is a few years old Steve? I worked in Saudi 20 years ago and driving through the Eastern Province this was a familiar sight. Although I believe it still goes on (as a safety measure) moves have been made in recent years to reduce the incidence of “flare-off”, so hopefully this will be less and less of an issue in the future.

Yep, I agree. There's much to be said with regards to the "historical" pollution of ICE (the cars, not Trump and his Administration), but these days things are far different. I have worked within the Mining, Petrochem and Chemical industries all my working life worldwide - ALL are working towards a far lower Carbon Footprint.... Unless you look into the likes of China, India, USA, Indonesia, Russia et al. and those who hang on their collective coattails (Thailand) where they are simply looking at money with complete disregard to the Environment. The likes of Saudi have tried to move away from OIL for many years - though they have a wonderful backup!

Personally, I would bin UK Labour's idiotic "Zero" or "Green" bollocks and re-open the North Sea Gas and Oil Fields - masses of jobs, huge investment, LESS IMPACT ON THE ENVIRONMENT!! and hell, less reliance on others during this period of Tariffs and Warfare.

I can appreciate your true love of EVs Steve, but it's not black and white.

Then again, let's look at the biggest suppliers and biggest polluters on a another scale. Still happy to buy Chinese to save the world?!! OK, it's not just EVs, but it's a big part of things from China, including Solar Panels and charging stations that you rely on. Let's not attempt to get into Microchips, Aluminium or Plastics (though in fairness that also effects ICE cars to a lesser content).
