Ao Noi

Post by Big Boy »

A friend posted a few photos on Facebook this morning. I can't believe how many times I've been to Prachuap, but have never found this little bit of paradise. As soon as I saw it (labelled as Prachuap Khiri Khan) I was confused, because I just couldn't place where it was.

As soon as my car comes out of the hospital, I just have to book a quick zip-trip to check it out properly. Quite excited.

Ao Noi is really pleasant, at least it used to be when I lived in Hua Hin. Very relaxed. I have been there a few times.

Yes, it certainly looks it. I just find it incredible I've missed it all of this time.

That whole area is nice, but avoid the weekends when it gets mobbed with Bangkokers.

Isn't there a small Thai airbase there too that goes back to WWII?

That's the other end of Prachuap, Ao Manao - site of the Japanese invasion row. Where, if you read (and believe) the plaques, Thailand kicked Japan's arse. Been there many times. I've just never turned left towards Ao Noi.

Yes, that's Wing 5 at Ao Manao. You just have to sign in at the guardroom (free entry), really lovely beach, eateries, hotel etc. Well worth a visit.
There's also a museum there remembering the battle of Prachuap Kiri Khan against the Japanese in WW2.
It's all good

Have to say it looks a great place/area - I'm quite pi$$ed off that I never found it or visited. It's certainly going to be one recommended to friends and family (well cousins at least) in Asia who do frequent and do appreciate Thailand.

Without a car of your own, is it a case of a "Driver for the day" or other?

Now you need BB to carry on his exploration of the Thai rail system!

Prachuap is about an hour away on a train, but you'd need wheels when you get there as the bays and attractions are quite spread out. Prolly easier to rent a car for a couple of days if you don't have one.

If I was doing it alone I would most certainly use the train. However, Mrs BB will be coming with me, and unfortunately, the wet weather has seen her health deteriorate slightly. I will need to have the wheelchair with me, and we can't be too far from her oxygen condenser - I can't manage all of that on public transport.

The good news is I should get my car back today or tomorrow (thought it was yesterday, but forgot about the Bank Holiday).
