Also agree with Lost, hold your whistle ref, there was nothing wrong with that goal it should've stood. Villa are rightly furious

Off topic (Premier League),but my team Ratchaburi suffered a similar injustice last season at Sukhothai when the ref disallowed a perfectly good goal because he'd blown his whistle too soon. That ref was suspended from football for 3 months, but the 3 points were lost forever.

Again, VAR was not allowed to get involved.

Points 46; Position 23 RELEGATED

That’s what I dislike about VAR - it gets involved when there seems no reason to and then when there’s a clear error the rules say “can’t intervene” !!

A statement from villa on Twitter:

'Aston Villa can confirm the club has written to the PGMOL to raise concerns over the selection process of match officials following today’s game with Manchester United at Old Trafford.

With such high stakes surrounding today’s fixture, the club believe a more experienced referee should have been appointed. Of the 10 referees to officiate across the Premier League today, Mr. Bramall was the 2nd least experienced.

The decision to disallow Morgan Rogers' goal, which would have given the club a 1-0 lead with 17 minutes remaining in the match, was a major contributing factor to the club not qualifying for the Champions League.

As per the standards that have been established over the course of the season, a decision to whistle early is clearly inconsistent with current refereeing guidelines. VAR exists to ensure that these types of situations receive the scrutiny they deserve. Unfortunately, the technology was not allowed to serve its purpose.

Ultimately, we acknowledge that the outcome for us will not change, but we believe that it is important to address the selection methodology to ensure that high stakes matches are treated as such with regards to officiating and to ensure that the implemented VAR technology is allowed to be effective'.

Many are pointing out how a bizarre failure in goalline technology saved them from relegation a few seasons back... instead they've been up in the mix and playing Champions League football since. They do say it 'all evens out in the end'.

Interesting. I think he could be managing Arsenal in a season or two if things stay as they currently are.

Arteta's Arsenal have underachieved - Henry

https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/arti ... j7wklgw7no

Arsenal have underachieved under manager Mikel Arteta in the past three years, says former captain Thierry Henry.

Arteta, 43, has transformed the Gunners since leaving Manchester City for the club in 2019, making the side regular title challengers.

However, the club have not won a piece of silverware since beating Chelsea in the FA Cup final during Arteta's first season in charge in 2020.

Arsenal have finished second in the past three Premier League seasons, and they were knocked out at the semi-final stage of the Champions League and Carabao Cup this term..............

It seems that there’s only room for one team to be successful - ok maybe 4 if you consider the EPL, CL, Europa and FA Cup, but clearly finishing second just isn’t good enough these days.

Maybe I am old and old-fashioned but I don't really understand this "Win a trophy quickly or get sacked"- mentality. If I remember correctly Klopp arrived at Liverpool in 2015 and won his first Premier League championship in 2019-20 so not exactly immediately. For me three second place finished in a row is a very good achievement. In the meantime, how many times have ManU changed managers and have they won something?

When I started following the English football in the early years of 70's, many managers stayed for a long time even without any great success or do I remember not correctly?

I think it's the fans BG. Quick success, or rejection. Everything now needs to be fast to give immediate gratification. Not just sports, throughout all of society for the younger generation(s).

Blame social media, I do. :guns:

FA Cup (2024)
League Cup (2023)

Arteta won the FA cup in his first season but has won FA since. :D .

To be so close three seasons in a row though. If you get a good striker in Gyokeres, which looks likely, you'll be back up in the mix again next season I fear.

When Arteta took charge they were in tenth back in 2019. Three 2nd's and a champions league semi final Good manager, would be stupid to get rid in the near future even with the very minor trophy drought of 5 years.

Ok, fair enough. Still, I prefer watching good football throughout the season (although, there are bad periods) to winning for example league cup. FA cup is good but I have to think, if it's better than a solid Premier league performance. CL would have been something, though.
