Cheaper operating costs. BA long ago decided post covid, that whilst direct flights to Bkk are profitable, they were not priority as bigger profits were available elsewhere. This new route appears more about the general, slow recovery of the industry. BA used to fly daily to Bkk.
Talk is cheap

I flew back into Suvarnabhumi this morning- scheduled arrival was 06.15 and we were at the docking station by 6.20. I was travelling with my wife so was able to use the Thai queue at passport control and we were done in about 5 minutes - bags took about 15 minutes and customs was a sail trough, so after finding our taxi man we were on the road a couple of minutes past 7 and reached Cha Am at 9.30 - one of my quickest transfers overall. The queues at normal passport control looked like they would have taken about 15 minutes, so not too bad.

All I have to do now is adapt back to the heat - fast approaching zero degrees overnight in the UK, whereas hot, humid and sweaty here!!

Welcome back. You'll soon adjust - temperatures have dropped nicely here as well - only low 20s overnight.

My weather app currently says 32c feels like 34c - I think yesterday morning in the UK was 6c feels like 4c, so near as damn it a 30° difference so I hope that overnight here will be a lot more comfortable as you suggest.

I just got back last night as well and had a similar smooth transit.
The flight landed at 18:45 at the new satellite terminal so you have to get an underground train but it only takes a few minutes and you exit that near immigration so it's probably quicker than some of the more distant gates in the main terminal.
There was only one person in front of me at passport control and I was home in Hin Lek Fai at about 22:30 by a car my partner had ordered.

^Yes, I must admit that I slept most of the way but it must have been an easy trip.

This is a new airline that will be offering flights between London Gatwick and Bangkok starting in the Autumn this years, with fares roughly half of what BA charges for the same route and even bigger savings to those charged by Thai and EVA from Heathrow. Let’s hope it provides a viable alternative!!

It seems that Heathrow Airport, London is facing major disruption today due to a fire at a nearby electric substation.

More on the above post:

Heathrow Airport closed all day over power outage

Heathrow Airport will be closed throughout Friday over a "significant" power outage linked to a fire at a nearby electrical substation that supplies it.

The airport, which is the UK's busiest, has warned of "significant disruption" over the coming days and told passengers not to travel "under any circumstances" until it reopens.

Almost 5,000 homes remain without power after two explosions and a fire at the substation in Hayes, west London, and 150 people have been evacuated from surrounding properties.

Emergency services were first called to the scene at 23:23 GMT, and video shared on social media showed tall flames and smoke billowing from the substation overnight.

Absolutely terrible for anyone travelling to/from Heathrow and it won’t get much better for quite a few days - at the moment they don’t know how the fire started.

It would show some brilliant intelligence if it was. Absolute chaos with one small fire.
