Re: Hua Hin Restaurant News
This might belong in another thread...
I visited the new Irish Pub Scruffys on Soi 94 tonight. Very busy couldn't get a seat inside or out for a while. However they have the usual staff teething troubles, lots of staff who don't know what to do. But they'll sort that in time.
Good prices - 95 baht for a large draft Leo. That's 130 in Father Ted's
Think it will be a hit.

I've seen the menu - Guinness and Kilkenny is 295฿, which is much cheaper in quite a few establishments around town, so swings and roundabouts.

I tried the Brewdog last night. Very nice. But I hope they sort out the chaos trying to pay. It took 45 mins from asking for the bill until I got to pay and received my change. Not nearly good enough! I guess they will improve. It is early days, but knowing it's St.Patricks Day tomorrow

The other downside, according to my son is the temperature inside - he had to leave because he was shivering. The aircon was set way too low. Maybe that was sorted as the night went on, but he and friends left because they couldn't stand the cold.

I'm like your son in that I hate really cold AC but i was in there around 9 to 9.30 and I didnt feel uncomfortable at all so maybe they adjusted itBig Boy wrote:The other downside, according to my son is the temperature inside - he had to leave because he was shivering. I spoke at length to manager whose task it is to get it up and running and then he's back to Samui where they have outlets there(also Bkk)
I was lucky that the manager saw me waiting for a beer and went to get it himself. As regards paying the bill I got this in a few mins. But 45 mins doesn't surprise me! The staff need at least a month to get up to speed

Re: Bars and nightlife in Soi 94
Was having a chat with a guy in Scruffys the other night about all the bar development in Soi 94
What was there before wonderland. Between us we thought it was a restaurant with large outdoor dining that began with an O???
Can anyone confirm? Thanks

It may have been that just prior to Wonderland but possibly prior to that again it was definitely a restaurant beginning with O. I ate there several timesBig Boy wrote:Isaan Station

Khun Oy was the first place I knew on that site. Then it became (something) Manao. I think it may have returned to Khun Oy again for a short period before becoming Isaan Station.

Re: Bars and nightlife in Soi 94
A coupla things I've learnt recently...
One is that the whole area from next to the 7/11 at the 94 road junction thru' to the Maldives bar complex has been bought up by a developer
from BKK (I believe this land is/was owned by the 'Sakura' family..who had restaurants either side of the road at the road jtn many years ago under the same name)..This info came from a long standing bar owner, so could well be more than 'idle gossip'..?
Next thing is wtf is going on with the toilets inside Wonderland..? Last night the place was busy, yet there was only ONE servicable toilet for men AND women to share..!
Next we come to the rant that soooo many people are not happy with..Scruffy's staff!..The ordering, the paying, the waiting..Everyone who's been say's it was a complete shambles..
...We rolled up on Friday night (along with others) only to find the entrances blocked up, & staff telling folk they are not opening till next (this) week..THEN one hour later we meet a man who told us 'yes, he's been in tonight (last Friday) and had a pint, nice place, but the staff are clueless he said. Think I'll wait till low-season..maybe by then the staff will either be getting it right or sacked/replaced..55!

I'm here now for third visit. It's quieter than before but still busy. I got my drink straight away by going up to bar and paying directly wouldn't allow staff to mess me around.usual suspect wrote:A coupla things I've learnt recently...

Fancied some food so asked the lady on next table how long it took her to get a burger.... 40 mins!
It's a decent place but you have to hassle the staff
Plus a lot of Mosquitos outside which is bad news as the large outside seating is a big attraction of this place
Ps not 'too' cold inside as I'd be out of here in a flash! Cool but ok. So they may have sorted that
