You could try this, near to the Cha-am Town Municipality Office:

Cha-Am Branch Revenue Department
Tax department

Would be interesting to see what the situation is at that office for those living in Cha Am.

OK guys, I've just received a response from HMRC (about 5 weeks since I asked the question), but it seems there is a better way to get your P60 validated. I didn't want to miss the 31 March deadline, so went down the faster, but more expensived route.

I will post my response below, just in case it can help others. If this route works, please share the detail, as it might make things easier/cheaper for next year.
Dear Sir or Madam,

Thank you for contacting HMRC Residency.

Your request also asked us to include an Apostille signature. This cannot be issued by HMRC with a certificate of residence. You can print out the appropriate form to request this by searching gov.uk/apostille and sending it with the original certificate of residence to The Legalisation Office, Foreign and Commonwealth Office. The information and guidance you will need can be found in https://www.gov.uk/.

You can use your Personal Tax Account to view your HMRC details and make changes online. To register, go to www.gov.uk/personal-tax-account.

Your Personal Tax Account (PTA) lets you take control of your tax affairs 24/7. You can:
• Check your Tax Code is correct.
• Claim an online refund if you have paid too much Tax.
• Print a proof of Income letter straight away (ideal for Mortgage & loan applications).
• Review your National Insurance record, your expected State pension
• Report changes in your circumstances and much more

Your PTA is free, secure and easy to use. If you already have a Government Gateway User ID and Password, use it to sign in to your PTA. If you don't have these, you can still get to your PTA – just make sure you have a P60, payslip or passport to hand. You can access it from your computer, mobile phone or tablet. Go to www.gov.uk and search for “Personal Tax Account” and then follow the instructions on screen.

Similar question to magsandbilly above. My wife has a certain amount of Sterling she has held in my Premium Bonds balance for savings she had. If I was to transfer that amount back to her Thai bank account this month, what would the tax implications be, anyone?

Was told if you bring it into Thailand you will be taxed on it.Basically try and bring in an amount that is not greatly over your tax allowances if you can

One thing I forgot to mention is we are not yet living full time in Thailand, so I take it we are exempt for the moment from tax declaration?

If you spend more than 180 days in Thailand in their tax year (1/1 - 31/12) you are deemed tax resident.

Apart from BB, has anyone else been to the tax office to either get a TIN, or settle up?

You are taxed on income. Savings are not income. She would need to prove that she is transferring savings. If one person transfers funds from overseas to another I guess it will look like income and personally I'd ask the tax office how to approach this.

My experience of declaring savings was that I was not questioned. The nice lady accepted everything I said as being the truth (which it was).

I imagine that evidence of the funds being transferred being from savings may be necessary if your tax return is picked for further investigation (hopefully an unlikely event).

Thanks guys. So if we transfer our "savings" this year before I retire in Thailand and ultimately become a tax resident we are OK?, for now.

I did the Thai tax settlement in February and nothing new here in Hua Hin for me and I think my settlement is of little interest to yours as I follow the tax treaty with Thailand and my home country and have done so for a few years already. The only new thing was that the regional office has again started requiring documented travel activity in the previous year from Immigration when applying for a income taxpayment certificate and residence certificate. There has been a delay in that requirement for several years and previously it was enough to have a copy of the passport and mark out exits/entry and attach a self-declaration.

Big Boy, did you get a new TIN number or were you able to use the number from your pink ID card?

I was given a piece of paper with a number on it. I didn't compare the number on my pink ID. I'm away at the moment, but will try to remember to look when I get home. If I haven't responded to your question by Sunday, please remind me again.
