English Chinese Food in Hua Hin

I've at last found an English Chinese food place that ticks all of the boxes for my personal taste buds. I'm not talking gourmet food, I'm talking Chinese Take-Away standard, that you used to find on many street corners in the UK.

There have been a few online pretenders offering take-away Chinese in recent years, but none of them have hit my personal taste zone. My son's wife used to cook a pretty mean Chinese, but it wasn't as good as this baby.

The Chinese food at the recently opened Charcoal Grill, just behind Soi 102 has really hit my taste buds for 6. It is really as if I'm back in the UK. Portion sizes are large as well. I couldn't finish mine tonight. I've tried it twice now, and both times I've been well impressed. Once sit in, and once take-away.

I've had other nice Chinese food in Hua Hin e.g. on the top floor of the Hilton, but it wasn't English Chinese. I'm delighted this new place has opened, and its just down the road from me.

Thanks. Looks a good recommendation judging by the Chinese menu, To get good chop suey would be a delight (spicy Singapore noodles even better, which I could get from the old place by the railway line).

But there is a small thing: true 'wagyu beef' burgers are waste of money, for silly punters everywhere. From the prices here I presume 'wague' is a humorous take-off, if a dubious trade description!

"English Chinese" as you put it is certainly more from Cantonese than Chinese IMHO and not even close to Chinese as far as I and certainly NOT as far as the LHG is concerned - Of course, China is a massive area with numerous foods, dishes, techniques and tastes - the difference in Northern and Southern Thailand is also considerable in my book.... But hey Ho and back to the point.

Curry is hardly Chinese or Cantonese, but was always my go to at the local takeaway in the UK - for obvious reasons very rarely used these days Though I'm sure your "Go To" as well BB - especially for the Wendyball!!

Anywho, the one thing I found whilst in China was the "Curry Cubes" - better than the similar Japanese ones in my book and always did remind you of the Chinese Takeaway Curries of the "UK" There are many similar, but this brand gave a 1-5 Heat Rating) and were by far the best tasting. Obviously not a takeaway, but just FYI

Be interesting to learn where you tried before, because the food you liked is courtsy of 'UK Chinese takeaway by Pitty', who have had at least two previous locations.

Yes, Charcoal Grill looks like another relocation for the good UK Chinese takeaway which was recently near to the railway line.

The best curry cubes I have found here are House Foods 'Java Curry' (Japanese brand) available in Makro. Thick and full of taste.

I doubt I'll see my son until tomorrow, but I must agree, it does look as though this is a reincarnation of one of the other suppliers. I can only think it is maybe the new purpose built kitchen that is making the difference.

There are 3 of us - we all agree after 2 attempts at the Charcoal Grill version, there is most definitely something different that is hitting the right spot. Either that, or maybe chef had a bad day the times we tried the old version. Whatever, lets look forward, not back.

I am happy to have Charcoal Grill as an option for a good Chinese Take-Away.

Correct. And they both are UK or British style Chinese not only ‘English’

My son has confirmed the previous places as being the same place. He was as blown away because he also feels the difference is chalk and cheese. Whatever, we think the new place is ace. Of course people with different taste buds might think the opposite.

Possibly, but by reading the thread at the link, I think (not certain) that Pitty is the chef.
