My P60 isn't much better. It is a printed form by Civil Service Pensions i.e. it is a P60(substitute). However, there is enough information on the form for the Embassy to be able to validate with the UK tax department. Where they will get the time to do that though, I don't know. At at least £45 a validation, they might be able to employ temporary staff to do the job, but will they be given access to the UK tax system just because the Thai Gov't says jump?

Whatever, I will attempt to do it in the coming days, and will report back on how I get on.

But does that mean a visit to the Embassy in Bangkok, or can it be done by post?

I've been looking on the UK Embassy web page. It suggests it can be done, but then talks about things that they couldn't do like verify signatures - there are no signatures on a P60.

I will start by trying one of the visa shops on Soi 94 to see if they can help.

I certainly don't want to go to the Embassy. The last time I got them to verify my passport was genuine, I had to go back to the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs the next day between 8 and 9am to get them to validate the Embassy work as being authentic. It was at that stage I paid an agent to do the 2nd part.

The problem being that under DP regs, the Embassy will have to create some sort of pro-forma for you to sign, giving the revenue permission to provide the requested personal data to the Embassy. And they can't demand it by whatever date, just accept it when it's returned. And the revenue might charge for providing this service, in which case, there would probably be a service provided by date i.e 14 days.

Funny how the same office can differ between officials. When I went to get a TIN in HH in December the only document they wanted was my passport. Same for a friend in Bangkok.

Is history going to repeat itself? When I first came to Thailand in 1990 they had just done away with tax clearance certificates which foreigners' needed to leave Thailand. Now they may be needed to stay?

Either that, or they've moved forward (in their own way). Thais love bits of paper, and they had a stack of the basic proformas, and a lot of little slips that they can staple at the bottom. I had 2 little stapled slips.

I think its everybody (us and them) learning together as we go. It'll have probably moved on a bit further in a month's time.

You obviously got away lightly - well done for being first.

Did you discuss the tax treaty and how it would work in your case? Did it involve anything as ludicrous as trying to get documents certified and confirmed as correct by your Embassy?

No and no. My case is very simple. No DTA stuff involved and IMO a couple of thousand baht tax is not worth trying to avoid. I've already done my tax return. If they come back and ask for bank statements, etc., I have them prepared.

Where did the money go - presumably into your Thai bank account - can’t you check from there?

As soon as I log on to Wise, it lists my transactions - I press the see all link, and everything is there. Mind you, I'm using a laptop. Probably different if using a phone.

Where actually is the office? Is it the one on Soi 88 across from Nany's?

Just done it on my Wise app, on the home screen TRANSACTIONS and next to it a 'see all' link and voila!

Brilliant thanks Sateeb

Great filter option too

Ps I actually tried that option before posting but couldn't find the transaction I was looking for so dismissed it. Too impatient!!

^ It's even more interesting if the income you send here is from a mix of sources, including pensions. How do the authorities here work that out?
