PRACHUAP KHIRI KHAN, Jan 13 (TNA) – A Belgian man died while kitesurfing off the coast of Pranburi in Prachuap Khiri Khan province, southern Thailand.

The 55-year-old man, identified as Brendan, was reportedly swept against rocks at Khao Kalok (Skull Mountain), a landmark within the Thao Kosa Forest Park, by strong waves. Rescue workers recovered his body from a crevice after a search operation.

Pak Nam Pranburi Police Station received a report that a foreign kitesurfer had been swept towards Khao Kalok and was unable to return to shore. His Thai girlfriend and Belgian mother anxiously awaited news as rescue efforts were hampered by rough sea conditions that prevented the use of boats or jet skis initially.

Search teams deployed a drone to survey the area around the mountain. The drone located Brendan’s body, dressed in an orange sports shirt and blue shorts, lying face down in a rock crevice approximately 3-4 meters deep. He had remained in the same position for several hours.

Rescue personnel waited for calmer seas before deploying a rubber boat to retrieve the body. Upon seeing Brendan’s body, his mother, partner, and friends were overcome with grief.

How dangerous is it kitesurfing Hua Hin? I’m looking at learning on Friday!

Its pretty dangerous when the wind is howling and sea is rough as it has been for the past few days. Under normal conditions though, its not.

RIP Brendan.

I remember that someone got drowned kite surfing off Hua Hin beach some years ago when they got tangled with a buoy and dragged underwater.

Two kite surfers were washed up at the same spot when I was down there about a month ago.
Local police were contemplating calling in a chopper to haul them out but in the end I think they were going to be left there to sit it out overnight until the weather eased off a bit.
Complexity is so simply overrated

Surprised no one has mentioned the paraglider who crashed and died a week last Friday, 3rd January, also near monkey mountain Khao Takiab.

A few times when walking the beach I've seen 2 paragliders flying south over the beach and over the mountain at Khao Takiab.

No mention in this report what caused the incident.
