HAPPY NEW YEAR! AND A GOODBYE TO 2024!!

Post by pharvey »

Firstly, a very, very Happy New Year to all on the Forum and their loved ones :thumb:

We're a day or so away from the major celebrations and I'm sure there'll be the usual "Fireworks" everywhere.. :D

Personally (whilst we had a great time), I'm glad to see the back of the mayhem of Christmas with the multitude of nieces, nephews, their partners and the odd bickering sibling (it continues even close to retirement  ) - I'm looking forward to a quiet night in at home with the LHG, a nice meal with the odd glass of wine and a decent movie. We'll take in the "Midnight Fireworks" on TV (hush-up)!! :D

There's always the look back over the year, "The Good, The Bad an the Ugly" for us all, be it personal or through the events of the year or those involved. Many of us will believe we've had a Year to Forget (don't we always?), but let's just believe we have a year to look forward to - if only for a little while!!

But, before the "Main Event", what were your "Moments or Memories" of 2024?

There are countless for me, personal, political and sporting etc. But as Rugby would bore most of you to death, Politics is a no-no and Personal Matters may lead to a lawsuit or 2, I'll go for the following - a short video in memory of the great stars of Entertainment that we lost but shan't forget: -

"Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things" - Yma o Hyd.

Thanks for the memories PJ, but I REALLY don't like to be formally wished Happy New Year until it's here! Assuming I survive the meat and booze feast of my neighbour's barbecue, being cooked my our Thai resort manager, you may congratulate me on another year completed after midnight tonight.

^ My apologies - I may wish or may not wish you a potentially Happy New Year then...

Enjoy the BBQ.

There have been some quite incredible shows around the world already - the LHG has been sent countless videos of celebrations in her hometown of Chongqing... Certainly not for me - not enough room to swing a cat, let alone eat one!!

I'll post some pics once she has got off the phone to the "masses"!! Anything from HH or surrounding areas from those on the Forum?

[EDIT] Unfortunately, things don't look too promising for us here in the UK - the weather has stuffed up several planned shows... Not the best of starts!

But plenty of dog owners will be cheering quietly to themselves.

Indeed! There have been a couple of Muppets letting of a few rockets and bangers even by 8pm. The four-legged munchkin we're looking after however doesn't seem to give a flying monkey's!! :thumb:

They started even earlier in Thailand and kept going at regular intervals until well past midnight, at which time the “gun admirers” joined in and yes our two dogs were both terrified especially the older one who gets worse every year!!

Other than that, Happy 2025!!

And best wishes to you also - our dear departed pooch was brought up in the noise and chaos of Chongqing and never minded the Armageddon that arrived on Chinese New Year. In Later life and in the peacefullness of the Wye Valley - however, he took a distinct dislike to any noise.... A grumpy old barsteward, much like myself and many other Forum members!! :thumb: :D

Anywho, London did itself proud with a cracking display, though I'm sure Labour will be pinching pockets for it for a long while!!

Did you get to see it Lost?

Happy New Year all. 🎉 🥳

London skyline tonight (not my video).

I don't trust children. They're here to replace us.

Happy New Year everyone!

Watched local displays from the balcony at midnight here in Bkk. Some were pretty impressive.
