A question about annual car (MOT) tests
Re: A question about annual car (MOT) tests
The nice thing about older cars is that the tax decreases with age..

They have shops selling used tyres. In Thai, this is called 'yang percent' - percentage tyres. The term probably comes from ' still some use (percentage wear) left in them'. I have sold them some of my old tyres, as I typically change the set, but only get about 100 baht per tyre. It's still better than leaving them in the garden to breed mossies.404cameljockey wrote: ↑Thu Aug 15, 2024 9:27 am While Google locating the garages mentioned I found a tyre place named อ้วนยางเปอร์เซ็นต์@หัวหิน, which Google translates as: "fatty rubber percentage".

I’ve always found the annual tax renewal process very quick and efficient - I’ve always used the location opposite the Energy project just outside Cha Am heading towards HH.VincentD wrote: ↑Thu Aug 15, 2024 1:51 pm It's more about emissions, brakes and general roadworthiness. The place I go to in Bangkok does have a workshop attached. Most places will do your compulsory insurance and the road tax renewal for a fee. But they do have to go to the land transport office to do so. If you've tried to renew this yourself, you'll appreciate the service they provide.

Off the top of my head there are 5 or 6 of them within 5 minutes of my place in Hin Lek Fai

Thanks for the info, 400 Baht is 400 Baht, and mossies are mossies!VincentD wrote: ↑Thu Aug 15, 2024 2:57 pmThey have shops selling used tyres. I love Google Thai translations! I posted this one in the FOO forum recently:

Re: A question about annual car (MOT) tests
It's been efficient for at Pranburi Land Transport office since they introduced the ticket queuing a few years ago, and when I go it's usually fairly empty. It's just the hour round trip I would like to avoid. Also I read that the car test is much faster at garages than at a license office. Just like getting your doctor's certificate for your driving license renewal is faster/cheaper at a small local doctor's shop than at a hospital or a fancy clinic.Dannie Boy wrote: ↑Thu Aug 15, 2024 5:06 pmI’ve always found the annual tax renewal process very quick and efficient - I’ve always used the location opposite the Energy project just outside Cha Am heading towards HH.VincentD wrote: ↑Thu Aug 15, 2024 1:51 pm It's more about emissions, brakes and general roadworthiness. Re: A question about annual car (MOT) tests
For anyone closer to Pranburi, I always use the one right opposite the entrace to Lotus (which is also just down to the DLT office/police HQ), they do the MOT plus tax and insurance takes about 20 mins for a bike and pick up tax reg and iinsurance cert next day, was about 1000 baht all in, same for car. I have also used them to transfer grren books and also plates from Petcheburi/BKK to Prachuap, takes a week or so. Mainly locals using it from the look of it, no English though.
