My extension based on retirement was set to expire on 29 June 2024, but I decided to renew it today – 6 June.
First, I arrived at the Bangkok Bank in Cha-Am at 08:30. I requested the two documents required for Immigration using the 800,000 baht in the bank method. The bank knew exactly what to do and provided me with the two documents. The bank also updated my passbook, and at my request made a copy of the last page for me showing a transaction on 6 June. The cost was 200 baht.
I arrived at the Phetchaburi Immigration Office at 09:10. I had previously made a 10:00 am appointment online through this link:
Phetchaburi Immigration Office (office365.com)
When I entered Immigration I stood in a short line at the information desk. A woman reviewed my documents and then directed me to take a seat.
I submitted the following to Immigration:
1. A completed TM 7 Form with a picture.
2. My passport, and a signed copy of each page that had data on it - including my latest 90 day report and a copy of my TM30.
3. The two Bangkok Bank documents.
4. My Bangkok Bank passbook, and a signed copy of each page of the passbook.
5. I am married to a Thai woman and we own a house.
(a) A copy of my wife’s ID card – wife’s signature;
(b) A copy of the Bluebook – wife’s signature;
(c) A hand drawn map showing the location of our house – both of our signatures.
6. A 1900 baht fee.
I also applied for a single reentry permit and submitted the following:
1. A completed TM 8 Form with a picture.
2. A copy of all pages in my passport that have data on them – including my latest 90 day report and my TM30.
3. A 1000 baht fee.
I walked out of the Immigration building at 10:10 with both a retirement extension and a single reentry permit valid until 29 June 2025. I am very pleased with the process and service that was provided by both Immigration and Bangkok Bank.
Please be advised that his information is valid as of this date, but word is that there may be some changes in September, so stay tuned……..
Another successful renewal today, but not without being rejected first time around. My bank clerk had a lapse of concentration, and my bank letter, instead of naming me, it named Mr. Market Village Branch.
It was a quick trip back to MV, got the letter corrected and straight back to Immigration to pick up visa.
No new requirements this year, in fact they handed a few papers back to me.
Interesting question that will most likely receive varied answers.
I don't know for certain, but when I was planning to move here, it was the annual amount the powers that be considered necessary for living in Thailand for 1 year. Back then it was generally expected you would live off the 800K, and top it up before the next visa extension.
That was over 10 years ago, so I'd guess if my version of the truth is correct, it must be long overdue for an increase.
I, like you, will be interested to hear other versions of the truth.
I have heard the same as Big Boy say but also in case the foreigner gets hospitalized to cover costs, but the latter it can't be for many uses Embassy Statements:?
Whatever, it is a nonsense and should be cancelled.
I worked in different countries all my working life and none of these countries had any cash deposit or anything similar!!!!!!

I need to go in and extend my retirement visa this week (based on 800,000 in the bank). Just wondering if anyone experienced something new doing this recently.
Thanks!!
The proper function of man is to live, not to exist. I shall not waste my days in trying to prolong them. I shall use my time.

I've done my last few extensions based on marriage rather than retirement so I can't speak from personal experience but over on the ASEAN Now forum (where they discuss such things at length) there's nothing been mentioned recently about changes in doing extensions of permission to stay based on retirement.

I think the change might come after the new tax rules kick in from January!!
I think Jan 1st will be too soon. It was the last administration that wanted it and they are no longer in control. As loosing face is a problem we shall see how they proceed.

My friend switched from income to deposit. He deposited 800,000 baht into the bank account in January 2024. This week he went to the immigration office to apply for the one-year extension and was rejected because the money must be in the account for 12 months. I have never heard of such a thing before.
I'm sure it's nothing a brown envelope couldn't sort
Seriously, your friend needs to speak to somebody with more authority. There have been a couple of times in recent years where they tried to block me on technicalities. Just stand your ground and move up the chain.
