The Whiskey Thread
Re: Whiskeys
I've never had a bottle of whisky around long enough to have this problem but I've just had a read on the net and an opened bottle will only last for two years in perfect conditions and considerably less in high temperatures, so if I was you I'd drink that Blue Label now!

Re: Whiskeys
I’d always assumed that whisky would almost last indefinitely but if that’s the case, I’d better start drinking as it’s too good to waste!!STEVE G wrote: ↑Fri Apr 21, 2023 2:31 pm I've never had a bottle of whisky around long enough to have this problem but I've just had a read on the net and an opened bottle will only last for two years in perfect conditions and considerably less in high temperatures, so if I was you I'd drink that Blue Label now!

Re: Whiskeys
Guess I'll have to start gifting away my bottles then....
I think most are unopened so the whisky may still be ok I'll just have to expect every cork to die upon opening...
Thanks guys.

Re: Whiskeys
I don’t know whether you can buy cork stoppers to replace any that “die” upon opening, if you can then that should prolong the life quite a bit - I’m going to look on my next trip back to the UK, where I would imagine the chances will be greater than here in Thailand?Ginjaninja wrote: ↑Sat Apr 22, 2023 4:13 pm Guess I'll have to start gifting away my bottles then....![]()

Re: Whiskeys
Was in MV Lotus’s the other day and they have vastly improved the upper end whisky (in a locked case) on sale. A few varieties of Ardbeg to say the least.

Re: Whiskeys
I'd slowed down on my Whiskey drinking but when I got on China Air (business class) they were pouring JW blue free, I started drinking again,

The Whiskey Thread
I have been expanding my whisky knowledge and sampling a few different Scotches during a recent trip to the UK (where it is a lot cheaper than in Thailand.) Also visited the Glen Moray distillery while in Scotland to see how the 'water of life' is made. I hadn't heard of this one until I read an article on it winning a bunch of awards in 2023. Must say, it is one of my favorite Speysides now ... along with Tamnavulin, which does some excellent wine cask finish malts.
Its a shame decent malts are so expensive in Thailand ...

Did they have any geese as “security guards”?
I remember going to the Dumbuck distillery in about 1980 and back then that was as far as I know their main security facility.

Yes, I used to drive past there very regularly on the way to and from Faslane and Coulport Naval Bases. Those geese were quite a sight, and they always said, very effective.Dannie Boy wrote: ↑Thu Jul 18, 2024 5:09 pm Did they have any geese as “security guards”?

Re: The Whiskey Thread
Well, I've tried and very much enjoyed some of what Glen Moray has to offer in the past, but certainly not 60% abv gear!!

There is a blended whisky called Label 5, which is available in Thailand at a reasonable price, it comes from the Glen Moray distillery apparently.

Re: The Whiskey Thread
As a peated single malt person there is no cheap whisky here here. Have not seen any smoky monkey just the regular. Fortunately not long back from the UK and enough bottles came back with me to last a while.
