Well, if Free Practice is anything to go by, Qualifying and the Main Race could be quite something!! Just 0.1 seconds separating the Top 5 in FP3.... Cooler temperatures for Sunday's race predicted which could well effect tyre/Pit Stop strategies

Re: 2024 F1 News and Prediction League
And of course Crashappen bounces back - God I truly dislike the bloke
A cracking final lap from Norris puts him on Pole, despite Verstappen gaining a tow from Sainz - something else to add to Ferrari's disappointment in Qualifying, finishing up in P5 and P6. Ferrari's disappointment is Mercedes gain with Hamilton and Russell finishing in P3 and P4 respectively. Red BS are being matched on straight line speed and that must be a concern for them - cooler weather and a chance of rain for Race Day could make things very interesting!!

Here's looking forward to a cracking race!!

Re: 2024 F1 News and Prediction League
Well bugger!
Crashappen wins - but it could have been Norris' race and he'll be rueing his poor start. Russell on the other hand had a cracking start jumping from P4 to P1. This in itself though also caused Norris problems as MV took the lead on Lap 3 and Russell held up Norris for a further 12 laps.... McLaren are matching if not slightly ahead of Red BS in performance - Mercedes and Ferarri close, but a few 10ths down on lap speed.
Tyre selection and tactics also played a big part. A poor weekend for RB Second Team and also Aston Martin - Ferrari will be disappointed especially with their upgrades not bringing the performance they wanted. Norris has also now taken second spot in the Driver's Championship although still way back on the "Dire Dutchman". With McLaren at the top of their game and Mercedes much improved, this season could be a damn sight more interesting than the last couple of years. Some great racing today - Russell vs Norris especially at times....

HHF/SUPERBRU PREDICTION LEAGUE: -
I certainly stuffed my selections this round, and lost ground to that man "Parahandy" again, who takes the Yellow Cap
I along with "PeteC" and "Vital Spark" have the honour of the Wooden Spoon....
Still, there's Austria in a week's time to redeem ourselves!!

Blinkin' 'eck!! I've got so many blasted wooden spoons and I don't even cook! Just have to whack Mr.P. around the head with a few before the British GP to try and addle his brain. I did, however, pick Lando for pole, and was really hoping for a win for him. Ho hum, maybe in a fortnight...

Lovely to hear you're still around VS, I hope "Mr P" has been kicked out to the balcony/shed/street corner. Yep, I was hoping for a Lando win and a Crashapen failure.... Sadly, neither to be!! Three Brits in the Top Four can't be bad though - a step up for Silverstone would be just perfect!!Vital Spark wrote: ↑Mon Jun 24, 2024 9:59 pm Blinkin' 'eck!! Have you managed to get to anything this season?

Hope you get this OK. The signal here in the coal bunker is quite weak... Old Sparkle not speaking to me for some reason. All this was so much easier when that Delightful Dutchman from the Top Team was winning everything, but now we have to work at it. Makes it more exciting, I suppose. If I can figure out how to do this, thought you might like to see a pic of Old Sparklet admiring her collection. You can tell by the look of pure delight on her face how happy she is about it all. That's why I'm in the bunker... P.
P.S. You may never hear from me again...

Re: 2024 F1 News and Prediction League
Crikey, we're there already!! It's time for the Austrian GP
The Red BS Ring obviously favours (or has done so) you know who, but McLaren have really been hitting straight-line speed and the Scuderia/Mercedes will be hoping for an improvement - Rain is forecast for Race Day... Hmmmm
Weekend's Schedule (NOTE: Times Shown Are UK): -
. .
VS - Perhaps you could do us all a favour this weekend and pass on one of those "Spoons" to Mr. P?

Re: 2024 F1 News and Prediction League
Well, a bit of a mixed bag prior to Qualifying... Mercedes initially looking good in FP1, but fell back a bit, Ferrari again a little disappointing, McLaren looking good and the normal, annoying service from Crashappen
Norris stuffed himself in the Sprint Race, initially taking Crashappen but then leaving the door open for Max to retake the lead and also for Piastri to pass - the latter ultimately the killer blow as his Tyre/Brake Management slowing down Norris and giving MV a clear lead. Some cracking racing though and it looks good for Qualifying and Race Day..... The weather and also Norris' health (?) could be deciding factors.

What is all that about. I can find nothing on-line about any problems after I saw your post?

There was a comment made that he was "under the weather" - he himself said he wasn't feeling 100% "But no excuses". he quoted. This was on SKY Sports F! - seems he's had "Flu-like Symptoms" for 5 odd days. Hopefully, it's not going to effect his racing.

Re: 2024 F1 News and Prediction League
Apologies, late on parade today....
Well, Cat's @rse.... Crashappen and Red BS top again
Interesting Qualifying though - Tsunoda earns himself a +/- £35K fine with a "Lost in Translation" comment - hmmm ? He seems to have a grip on the language quite frankly!!
The comment not shown/stated by BBC was "These guys are f***ing Retards!"
"Japanese driver Yuki Tsunoda has been fined 40,000 euros (£33,900) for using an offensive comment about a rival in qualifying for the Austrian Grand Prix.
The 24-year-old RB driver used an expletive and a slur against disabled people towards Sauber's Zhou Guanyu over the team radio, which meant he was hauled before race stewards.
Tsunoda, who believed he was obstructed in the pit lane, told them he did not realise what the term meant as English was not his first language and that he was "horrified" when he found out.
"During the hearing the driver was very apologetic," read a statement by Formula 1's governing body, the FIA."

A ludicrous penalty for exceeding "Track Limits" drops Piastri from 3rd to 7th on the Grid. Ferrari have bounced back
, whilst Aston Martin have a great deal of work to do. Fingers crossed for the Mercs (well, mine at least).

Re: 2024 F1 News and Prediction League
A race well worth watching for once, certainly the 2nd half. Norris gave it everything, then Verstappen reverted to type and took him out. The 10 sec penalty made no difference to Verstappen at all. Tosser.
This is the way
