Agree. His omittance in the past has been a non-stop talking point but, starting two games in a row now at a major tournament, he's been very poor.

Hopefully he improves.
Unfortunately he’s not been on his own, far from it in fact!!

Is it too soon to sack Southgate? I would.

Just get a manager who can inspire players, who can get the basics right.

Apart from bringing on Gallagher to replace the woeful (again) TAA, sad for the guy, but not his fault, it still took 70 minutes for Southgate to make changes and when he did, for once, they were positive, but by then, those remaining were suffering from shell-shock. Rice looked incapable of keeping the ball, Stones got even slower, Walker was all over the place, Bellingham had gone missing, Trippier did well enough and Guehi was probably our best outfield player. We were still better for their presence, but Southgate needed to make the change 10 minutes earlier, at least.

I want to see Palmer in the next game. One of the best players in the premiership last season, oozes confidence and class. Nothing phases him. Once he get's in, it will be hard to leave him out.

Foden was much better today and Kane needs to go on a diet.

I don’t think any of the substitutes made much of an impression but that’s not really surprising when virtually the whole team was struggling. The one exception was Guehi although even he had a couple of shaky moments.

Certainly agree that it’s time for Gordon to get a run out to see if he can maintain his club form.

Clearly not the time to be talking about changing the manager until the tournament is over, but either voluntarily or being pushed, probably the right time to make the change during the summer.

The only positives are we are still unbeaten, and top of our group with double the points of our nearest rival. Achieving that while we're playing so badly gives a lot of hope for when we finally click.

It was painful to watch, all that talent on the pitch, but Denmark had a well planned team who pressed England relentlessly, they worked very hard. The only small defence is that the best talent shines less on such a terrible pitch, it might have felt like a Sunday League match. But that was the least of England's problems.

A commentator said that this was the first goal that England have conceded in the group stage since 2016 (unchecked by me). But what a goal, without it England would have had the 3 mostly undeserved points.

The other factor about Englands performance, and it was the same against Serbia, is the lack of tactical acumen once again displayed by Southgate. Every substitution so far has been to replace like with like, but not to actually change our game plan, which was woefully exposed in both games. I think it is the sheer efforts and talent of the individual players, in a flawed system, that is keeping us afloat. In effect, he is still playing as if he has Philips to play alongside Rice, and he hasn't. He has had a whole season to resolve that, and we end up with TAA!

So far, we have been very one-dimensional and it's clear other teams have worked that out and know how to counter it. This is basically the same issue as at the closing stages of recent tournaments. Start well, score even, then fall back and apart. When he laments Phillips absence and our lack of possession, it is an admission of his own failures.

I sincerely hope he can turn it around, but his track record in doing so isn't good.

I watched the volleyball 1/4 finals last night, so missed most of the Croatia/Albania game. I caught the last ditch equaliser. I missed the incident that this article talks about. Is it just click bait/slow news day stuff, or is it real?

What will happen to England if Serbia pull out of Euro 2024

Serbia's recent threat to pull out of Euro 2024 will have big implications for England and the other teams in the competition.

The Balkan side - who lost out to England by 1-0 in their Euro opener last Sunday (16 June) - has today (20 June) threatened to leave the competition.

General Secretary of the Football Association of Serbia, Jovan Surbatovic, claims that during yesterday's (19 June) game against Croatia and Albania, fans chanted derogatory phrase 'kill, kill, kill the Serb' during the 59th minute.

"First of all, I want to thank our fans for their support in the match against England and I hope we will beat Slovenia," he said in a translated statement to RTS.

"What happened is scandalous and we will ask UEFA for sanctions, even if it means not continuing the competition.

"We are sure that they will be punished, because they have already responded to our appeal to remove the so-called journalist from Albania from the championship."

Serbia are set to face off against Slovenia at 2pm (UK time) today, as other group C teams England and Denmark will play at 5pm.

What happens if Serbia pull out of Euro 2024?

According to UEFA, if a national team decides to pull out during the competition, 'the results of all of its matches are declared null and void, and the points awarded forfeited'.

Serbia will also lose 'all rights to payments from UEFA'. If there is a 'reasoned and well-documented' reason for the side to pull out of the competition, the team will be set an 'amount of compensation due for financial loss'.

What will it mean for England and the other teams?
Serbia's withdrawal during the tournament would create significant disruption for UEFA and the group standings would need to be recalculated.

For the last game of the group, Denmark would be handed an automatic 3-0 victory.

And this would leave an uneven number of teams in the competition, potentially requiring a new schedule to be created for the remaining fixtures.

Teams in Serbia's group may also be given extra rest time without the need to play an extra game.

But because England has already played Serbia, this would not apply to them.

Fans who had tickets for Serbia's matches would most likely need to be refunded or reallocated to other matches, but this is yet to be confirmed by UEFA.

So the two longest, crappiest, atmosphere-vacuuming VAR interventions this Euros have both been done with the English ref on the field. 🤣

I'm still honestly hopeful for the rest of the tournament. Bizarrely. The talent that's on the pitch...

If by some fluke, not of Southgate's doing, they find a way to gel together it could be something phenomenal. I'm still hopeful.
