Well they managed to hang on but by no means convincing - still a wins a win.

As for Harry getting the ball, you sometimes have to blame the people feeding him as much/rather than the player.

It was absolute rubbish. Too many players not playing well, nothing down the left for England, why we couldn't make changes there is anyone's guess, but Foden is way off form, TAA did nothing, IMHO, to merit his place in midfield. Southgate brings Bowen on to replace Saka, but he played more in a defensive role, as did Kane for much of the 2nd half. So where's the outlet up front?

The bottom line is that every change the Serbs made, seemed to make the team bolder and made a difference, ours were simply trying to stifle Serbia. It's what defenders turned managers do, especially Southgate. We have so much attacking flair, but it's wasted under him.

I’m not sure I’d be quite as critical as you Caller, but it’s fair to say that after a positive first 30 minutes, England slowly but surely played worse and worse. Whether that’s down to the Managers mentality I’m not sure and let’s not forget that Bowen did manage to make a very good cross that Kane was unfortunate not to score from due to the keeper’s excellent reaction.

As for individuals, Foden does look off the boil, TAA had an indifferent game, some good touches and some not so good, probably the best England players were Guehi and Rice and Bellingham for his goal.

I'm inclined to agree with most of what you say here, but there's one crucial fact that we all need to remember: WE WON FFS!!
Now we move on to the next game.
This is the way

Exactly!!!
  • Unbeaten
  • Top of the league
  • 3 times as many points as our nearest rivals
  • 0 goals conceded
All of this whilst the consensus is we're crap. We clearly can't get any worse if we believe what most of you are saying.

It must be coming............................

I worry that with all the time to prepare, to plan for every eventuality, that we started the tournament not knowing our best 11.

It would help enormously, to simply sort out the left midfield/attack. Foden simply can't fit into Southgates system. He and Trippier - who is playing out of position - were like strangers in the night. Foden had one touch in the Serb penalty area. I can't help but think Gordon would do much better. Having an effective left field would add so much more to our game and save Saka looking so knackered after an hour. I still can't understand why Southgate didn't make such a change.

I don't think the top teams will be worried by Englands performance yesterday. Denmark awaits.

It's not how we start the tournament, its how we finish. I know it can be hard, but have faith.

He may not be the greatest tactician, but hopefully Southgate will have realised the longer the game went on, that the balance wasn’t right. I’ll be both surprised and disappointed if there are not at least 2 or 3 changes made to the team that starts on Thursday!!

Fun fact: before yesterday's victory, England had only won one of their opening Euros games since 1980. Drawing 5 and losing 3. :D

FFS, what was I saying about True nobbling the football coverage? I've just sat down outside to watch the Romania vs Ukraine game on the front porch:

Yes, AIS are nobbling themselves!

Fortunately, True are not being so bloody minded with True ID:

[Edit] Or is AIS's hand being forced by True again?

So basically England have lost more than they have won? Isn't that true for every competition since 1966? Christ, Phileas Fogg won "Around the World in 80 Days" - The "Three Kittens" will be lucky to win again inside 80 years... :naughty: :duck:

I shan't mention Wales of course...

Just the opening game we're talking about, Pete. I'll let Google translate offer you a Welsh version of my posts in the future so you can respond more accurately.

Could Belgium face the first shock defeat of the tournament?
