Maybe they’ve been communicating with the cicadas and will all come out together!!

It's that time of year again. We were inundated with the little beasties yesterday evening, and I think it is worse this evening. Cleaning up this morning, we were sweeping clouds of discarded wings, which when combined with the already poison air, had to be very unhealthy.

We had it much worse last night than tonight, so hopefully by tomorrow it will be over for us!!

I nipped out to the outside fridge, and couldn't have been more than 5 to 10 seconds. I was covered. Mrs BB was knocking them off me and stamping on them. Tonight was definitely one of the worst attacks ever.

Really early, at least for where I am. But, last year we had almost none so this may be a bumper year for them, I hope not!
The problem when it's "over" and the ground is covered with millions of wings, means they have dug in or gone in somewhere, either structure or the ground. To me that's more scary than a flying swarm as it could mean major problems down the road once a new colony is established.

Yes, we get the smaller version at this time every year. Last night was the worst I could remember. It was as if I was being decontaminated when I came back in the house.

Up near Black Mountain we had a few several days ago, but none since.
Except the four or five in the evening coming from my loft space through my ceiling lights. None outside my windows.

Re: Weather in Hua Hin & Thailand
We had heavy rain yesterday and with it the largest concentration of termites I’d ever experienced in Thailand - I’m talking tens if not hundreds of thousands of the beggars so last night and this morning have been busy trying to sweep them up.
Re: Weather in Hua Hin & Thailand
We normally get overrun with termites every year regularly from January until August, but compared with other years, we've had very few this year.
This is strange because I'm fairly sure it was you who mentioned termites a few weeks back also. Normally its me moaning about termites (I hate them), and everybody else is left wondering what I'm on about. I'm pleased to say the tables have turned this year. Long may it last

Re: Weather in Hua Hin & Thailand
Without a doubt (probably by a factor of 10) last night was the most termites I’ve ever witnessed. Apart from sweeping the floors I’ve had to use the vacuum in all the window sill recesses to get rid of them all - I’m now looking for where we’ve hidden our vacuum bags because it must be full and will start smelling soon.
Re: Weather in Hua Hin & Thailand
My son teaches outside, and until this year there have been one or 2 nights every year when I've been sweeping the little beasties off students, and shovelling them off the mats. It always happens between 19:00 and 19:30. By 19:45, its as if nothing had happened.
The difference between us and most people, we don't need rain to wake them up.

Yes, after yesterdays rain, there was plenty of termites flying around, but no evidence of them this morning, maybe something had a mega feast?
