Electric Vehicles (EV) Thread
Re: Electric Vehicles (EV) Thread
Just idle curiosity, but how do you pay for this charge please? I agree, they are appearing everywhere but never seem to be attended. Is it Debit/Credit Card payment? Assuming you don't have to stay with your car, what is there to stop somebody pulling the charging lead out of your car and plugging it into their own for a while?

Re: Electric Vehicles (EV) Thread
Was in Shanghai a couple of days ago and surprised by how many EV’s there are. Also how much quieter busy roads are. Biggest menace are the electric scooters you don’t hear coming often on footpaths. First time doing any distance in an EV rather than a short taxi ride, motor noise was not too intrusive but present. Can see why it is the way for city transport to go.
Re: Electric Vehicles (EV) Thread
I personally have no idea. But you normally have to pre-book your slot in advance. Certainly in the stores in Bkk, where demand is high. I assume you also need to prove you have done some shopping.Big Boy wrote: ↑Fri Sep 29, 2023 6:19 pm Just idle curiosity, but how do you pay for this charge please? Different vendors/apps, have different and or multiple pay options.Big Boy wrote: ↑Fri Sep 29, 2023 6:19 pm Just idle curiosity, but how do you pay for this charge please? You can't disconnect cable from charging, while charging, at least on MGs and assuming all others. Also can't drive/steal vehicle.
Re: Electric Vehicles (EV) Thread
Thank you. I often look at the machines and wonder. They do seem to be plentiful these days, at least where I look. Rarely do I see a car hooked up.

Re: Electric Vehicles (EV) Thread
That can be a bit telling.
Most people with EVs, simply charge at home, for the cheapest rate, and slow charge, overnight, and actually better for the battery, as fast chargers produce heat, and not the batteries friend.
Though recent study suggests it doesn't matter much: https://news.yahoo.com/study-reveals-tr ... UBuII9VhyS
Another part of that is, some charging vendors, charge a penalty for remaining hooked up, after charging is done, to keep machines available. Also means, you're probably topped up, 30-45 minutes later, and need to return to you car to move it.
Many of the mall vendor machines are actually slow chargers, so no real advantage to use.
If out and about, non HH resident, bypassing HH, then no need to come to the mall/town to top up, as plenty on hwy 4 & 37, before, after HH.

Re: Electric Vehicles (EV) Thread
I would like to see worldwide agreed regulations concerning battery disposal either due to age, or when they end up in a twisted heap due to accidents. Perhaps they exist, but they need to be universal and not an issue of sovereignty where a country says "it's none of your business what we do with our scrap lithium batteries..." It probably has to be a UN program with policing and monitoring on the same level as Peace Keeping activity.
In time, millions of disposed batteries leaking whatever poison they leak into the soil, ground water and air could be worse than the effects of continued use of ICE vehicles.
I'm sure governments will wait until it turns into a crisis, as usual.

Not surprising as Ford pay their shop floor workers over $40 per hour, BYD less than $4.STEVE G wrote: ↑Sat Sep 30, 2023 3:01 pm BYD replaces Ford as world's 4th best-selling car brand in Aug, TrendForce says

So are you suggesting that Toyota, Volkswagen and Honda who sell more than BYD, pay maybe $2-3 an hour?2/cb wrote: ↑Sat Sep 30, 2023 8:04 pmNot surprising as Ford pay their shop floor workers over $40 per hour, BYD less than $4.STEVE G wrote: ↑Sat Sep 30, 2023 3:01 pm BYD replaces Ford as world's 4th best-selling car brand in Aug, TrendForce says

That isn't a very good way for Ford to run a business.2/cb wrote: ↑Sat Sep 30, 2023 8:04 pmNot surprising as Ford pay their shop floor workers over $40 per hour, BYD less than $4.STEVE G wrote: ↑Sat Sep 30, 2023 3:01 pm BYD replaces Ford as world's 4th best-selling car brand in Aug, TrendForce says

Re: Electric Vehicles (EV) Thread
Slanted assessment since local salaries are relative to local living expenses. Does Ford pay their Chinese workers in the joint venture plants $40 an hour.2/cb wrote: ↑Sat Sep 30, 2023 8:04 pmNot surprising as Ford pay their shop floor workers over $40 per hour, BYD less than $4.STEVE G wrote: ↑Sat Sep 30, 2023 3:01 pm BYD replaces Ford as world's 4th best-selling car brand in Aug, TrendForce says

Then MGs should be as cheap here/TH, as in CH, but 2-3X the price here.

Well $40 perhaps at the higher end (https://www.payscale.com/research/US/Em ... ourly_Rate), but hell, the unions are demanding a 36% pay rise to end the strikes - oh, and a 4-day week FFS.STEVE G wrote: ↑Sat Sep 30, 2023 10:59 pmThat isn't a very good way for Ford to run a business.2/cb wrote: ↑Sat Sep 30, 2023 8:04 pmNot surprising as Ford pay their shop floor workers over $40 per hour, BYD less than $4.STEVE G wrote: ↑Sat Sep 30, 2023 3:01 pm BYD replaces Ford as world's 4th best-selling car brand in Aug, TrendForce says

Yea, I saw that. Think they, all EVs, need to institute some kind of independent kill switch.Dannie Boy wrote: ↑Thu Oct 05, 2023 7:36 am Be careful KhunLA that this doesn’t happen to you!!
