I agree with you but they can't do much for the voters when they get the party dissolved by the Election Commission.

I think we all know what caused the problem - coming out with the one issue that was bound to raise a red flag. Get in power first (I don’t think this would have made much difference to the way people voted) and then introduce the changes on the taboo subject.
Re: Thailand general election fundamentally flawed: Human Rights Watch
Well it being in the manifesto served as a sort of opinion poll on the subject which otherwise couldn't be done. Because no need when 100% of the population love the big guy.
Re: Thailand general election fundamentally flawed: Human Rights Watch
Nothing will change whilst the system is rigged as it is. The question is how to change the system? It's now clear that all the institutions set up and appointed by the junta, will do their bidding. So, if, as is being proved, democracy can't effectivelly function, with PT next in the firing line, the two options are to do nothing and accept the situation as it stands, or fight back. That's up to the Thai people.

Thailand’s Bhumjaithai party joins with Pheu Thai to form government
THAILAND’S Bhumjaithai party leader Anutin Charnvirakul said on Monday (Aug 7) that he has accepted Pheu Thai party’s invitation to form a government.
The populist Pheu Thai party won the second-largest share of votes at the May 14 general election and is trying to form a government after winner Move Forward’s attempts to do so failed in parliament last month.
Bhumjaithai, known for championing the decriminalisation of cannabis, said it would ally with Pheu Thai on three conditions including that the new alliance leaves untouched the country’s strict laws on insulting the monarchy.
Anutin also said his party would remain in the Pheu Thai-led alliance as long as Move Forward were not included, and they did not form a minority government.
“Pheu Thai and Bhumjaithai party will form the government with the support of other parties,” said Pheu Thai leader Cholnan Srikaew.

I dont think this new coalition is a done deal at all. PT still have to get past the senators. And the big question is, what other parties? I can see PT being marganilised. They shhould walk away now. Have a minority Govt that won't be able to do anything, a new election, then MF take power. Easy - not.

Walk away now then in 11 months the Senate is booted out and vote a new PM from PT and/or MFP.caller wrote:I dont think this new coalition is a done deal at all. Pity PT's only principle is "get thaksin back".

My wife was against Thaksin when he was PM, but she would rather have him back than the General - I think the majority of Thais think similar.

Thank you Steve that was a good read but Thailand has missed a golden opportunity for a new beginning, so sad.STEVE G wrote: ↑Tue Aug 08, 2023 3:13 pm This article from last week goes someway to explaining the present situation:

Courage is grace under pressure and when circumstances change you change your mind.

Yep, good summary of events so far. Thai politics in a nutshell ...
A pack of decrepit old rich blokes squabbling over positions of power that will enable their further enrichment over the next four years at the expense of the country and its population.

It's only delayed - there is huge appetite for change which will come when the corrupt generals no longer have a say.PET wrote: ↑Wed Aug 09, 2023 6:59 amThank you Steve that was a good read but Thailand has missed a golden opportunity for a new beginning, so sad.STEVE G wrote: ↑Tue Aug 08, 2023 3:13 pm This article from last week goes someway to explaining the present situation:

Have to admit I thought it would kick off big time in BKK - perhaps fatigue has set in!
