Not sure if/how much this will help Pita and his party, but hopefully it will?

I don't expect Prayuth to stop meddling until he's been cremated.

Indeed, Prayuth changed the laws and orchestrated a system to enable the military and their cronies to meddle with politics indefinitely.

So the EC have now referred Pita's case to the constitutional court, seeking a ruling on his eligibility and seeking his immediate suspension as an MP. They haven't ruled on anything yet.

The madness continues and the good old BP was off the air earlier and only reports from yesterday appear on their website. At the same time, Thaksin's return to Thailand has been pur back until after July.

Coincidence? I think not.

What happens now? Does Thailand become the headless chicken that many have suspected?

Well Pita didn't make it because the senate voted against.

Huge numbers already gathering in BKK. I doubt there will be peaceful protests. It's more likely to be riots!

Move Forward Party Pita Limjaroenrat failed in this bid to be elected prime minister by the Parliament, receiving just 324 votes in a joint session of the Senate and House of Representatives. He needed to win 375 votes.

Can't see anything online about huge gatherings in BKK. Any links?

Maybe peaceful at first. There will be two more votes. If the numbers protesting are sufficient it may leave an impression on senators' minds for the next rounds. Then again, are the senators really free agents?

Where is your evidence of "huge numbers gathering in BKK. ? I have not seen it and also your mention of likely riots is not very sensible to print at this time IMO

Sorry, don't have a link. My daughter was reading it to me from her phone. It seems that there were already people that turned up at parliament house to wait for the results. I'm sure it'll be confirmed or otherwise in the next few hours.

Of the 250 junta-appointed senators, 13 voted for Pita, 39 voted against him, 159 abstained, while one senator had resigned just a day before the voting for PM.
Therein the problem lies.

It was all very orderly and finished at 8pm. I am sure they have plans to protest, but maybe not the time yet. In due course, it will need mass protests all over to shift the establishment. Maybe a boycott of stores, good etc. Who knows? But it needs number to come out to protest. Bkk voted for the MFP in all but one constituancy. They really are sticking up their fingers to the Country.

With Prayut retiring, who is at the helm while the mess is being sorted? Have the army put a temporary in place?

I think, Prayut said, he will remain PM until a new one is sworn in. Basically could be a long time that way.
