Weather in Hua Hin & Thailand
Re: Weather in Hua Hin & Thailand
Drier-than-average rainy season tipped for this year
The rainy season will officially start on Monday with less rain forecast this year due to the El Nino weather phenomenon, the Meteorological Department announced on Friday.
TMD director-general Chomparee Chompurat said the seasonal climatic change would also see a shift in general wind direction.
According to Ms Chomparee, the El Nino weather phenomenon could mean a dry spell from mid-June to mid-July, leading to water shortages in several agricultural areas.
Rainfall is expected to peak in August and September with one or two tropical storms moving across the North and the Northeast, bringing heavy rain and triggering flash floods, she said.
According to the TMD chief, the rainy season is due to end in the middle of October but rainfall is expected to continue in the southern region, especially on the eastern side, until January next year.

Bucketing it down on Soi 106 since just after 3 this afternoon. Some welcome relief!

Looking at the sky, it should have been quite widespread - it started here about 6-7 km south of Cha Am just before 3.00 pm, but now stopped.

Nice bit of rain again today. Not as heavy as two days ago but once again, it was preceded (and accompanied) by a nice cooling breeze which has lowered the temperature noticeably.

Alarm over weather-related threats
Drought, floods and other extreme weather exacerbated by climate change could cause damage worth 36 billion baht to the Thai economy this year, says the Joint Standing Committee on Commerce, Industry and Banking (JSCCIB).
Water scarcity caused by drought is the committee's leading concern because it could have a massive impact on both the agricultural and manufacturing sectors, hampering already sluggish exports, said Kriengkrai Thiennukul, chairman of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), a key member of the JSCCIB.
"Manufacturers are worried about drought because it can reduce production capacity and affect exports," he said.
According to the Commerce Ministry's latest data, in the first four months of 2023 Thai exports decreased by 5.2% year-on-year to US$92 billion, while imports fell by 2.2% to $96.5 billion, resulting in a trade deficit of $4.51 billion.
Signs of an export slowdown began late last year when key economic indicators showed a drop in shipments amid worries over the possibility of a recession this year.

Dunno about droughts... but rainy season in full swing down here in the boonies ... doubt we'll see the sun again until December now

I don’t know whether to envy or pity you - where we are it’s been very dry so far!!

No rain forecast for most of Thailand in July
Despite the fact that it is now the rainy season in Thailand, no rain is forecast for most of July, returning in August. The Royal Irrigation Department has instructed its officials to adjust their water management plans to ensure optimum use of water and to maintain as much as possible in the reservoirs.

Most of Thailand means "everywhere except Bangsaphan" - it literally has not stopped here for the past week.

Re: Weather in Hua Hin & Thailand
All we’ve had so far are fairly frequent, but fairly light showers, considerably down on most years!!
Re: Weather in Hua Hin & Thailand
We have had a fair bit of rain as well, mainly a succession of showers, mostly light, and sometimes it just feels like there is 'rain in the air'. I look out of the window now and see we have yet another light shower.
Talk is cheap

Been absolutely tipping it down in Soi 106 for about the last half hour.

Yes, I had to go out to rescue Mrs BB who had been on the back of my son's motorcycle. We don't like her getting wet. Plenty of deep water accumulation - it didn't take long
