Yes folks only a decade ago Hua Hin was the new jewel in the coastal-resort crown of Thailand..But 10 yrs on what have we got that renders that worthy title..?
Well we've got an area on Poolsuk road that used to be a favourite eating area for tourists..now a rubble-based impromptu car park.
We have half the beach Rd/piers knocked down/dismantled without any sign of future developement, plus a pier that has 1 freezer truck using it to collect fish maybe 1 or 2 times a week.
The trees that were planted right in the middle of the footpaths/sidewalks are still there causing headaches for pedestrians & motorcyclists.
Bintabaat soi WAS made a pedestrian only zone after 7pm nightly..Oh no..the barriers at each end soon magically vanished,& the Thais quickly went back to finding a need to zig-zag between the wandering crowds each night on their bikes!
The beach entrance STILL has horses that you must walk round cos they are so near to the steps.
The fat old dragon still charges you 10b to use her pail of water to rinse the sand off your feet cos they've managed to turn off the water to all the recently made water outlets/taps at the nearby designated wash-area.
OH, sorry we've not mentioned to pending mess on the railway road..for about 2 years now they seem to half demolish a building along the railway side at a rate of maybe one per 2 weeks to a month..It's like they are competing with the time taken to flatten it all here with the years it's gonna take to level the pier-based structures..
...So to put it bluntly..Hua Hin is a bloody mess, with no real goal/target to improve things..

Yes its such a shame the local governors cant get some sort of master plan together.

Its unbelievable that they have one of the countries leading golf courses and very poor road to it. It should have been one of the conditions of development to improve the road infrastructure to it.
Meanwhile I hear Wonderland 13 is in planning stages

To fix all the things wrong in Thailand would require thinking, and that is in short supply. This is the least creative placed I've lived. At best it's still the 1950's.

Problem is, they seem to destroy things in Hua Hin that don't need fixing. Then they just walk away.

Today, while my wife was having her hair cut, I walked up Soi 94, crossed the tracks and was immediately in Tijuana, Mexico, circa 1957. Fat old white men, in t-shirts perched at the front bars, put me in mind of an end-of-the-world, disaster movie. Very depressing.

On a positive note, I saw Ogun restaurant and looked at their menu, very promising.

Why would you be surprised? On the other hand it was only from Petchkhasem Rd. I walk 3 to 5 Km daily.
