Thai AirAsia plans Chiang Mai – Singapore route

https://thethaiger.com/hot-news/transpo ... pore-route

Thai AirAsia plans a Chiang Mai – Singapore route, resuming flights between Chiang Mai and Singapore for the first time in more than a decade.

Thai AirAsia CEO Santisuk Klongchaiya said…

“Singapore is a complete tourism destination that has always been popular, with a high load factor average throughout the year.

“The direct Chiang Mai-Singapore route will give people of the north a convenient and affordable way to reach Singapore while Singaporeans can easily head to the unique city. The route will benefit the economies of both locations.”

Thai AirAsia is a subsidiary of Malaysian low-fare airline AirAsia and Thailand’s Asia Aviation. The airline serves AirAsia’s regularly scheduled domestic and international flights from Bangkok and other cities in Thailand.

Four flights per week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays will use Airbus A320s. The new flights come as the carrier prepares to increase traffic through Chiang Mai.

Thai AirAsia will compete on the route with Scoot, which offers a daily A320 flight. Thai AirAsia’s move will increase weekly capacity to 4,000 seats.

Klongchaiya added…

“As travel demand is increasing, AirAsia is introducing a variety of new routes, focusing on international journeys to help boost the economy. Our latest addition, Chiang Mai-Singapore, will make AirAsia the provider of convenient travel to Singapore as it will be flying Don Mueang-Singapore three times a day, Phuket-Singapore one time a day and Chiang Mai-Singapore four times a week.”

To celebrate the CNX-SIN route, AirAsia has launched an “Endless Colors of Singapore” promotion with fares starting from 3,390 baht each way. The special fare can be booked through 4 December 2022 for travel from February 1, 2023, using the AirAsia app.

Air Canada to launch direct flights to Thailand next month

https://thethaiger.com/news/national/ai ... next-month

Air Canada will launch direct flights to Thailand next month. A Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner will service the route, flying between Bangkok and Vancouver four days per week. It will be the first direct service linking North America and Thailand in 10 years.

Canada’s flag carrier will fly between Vancouver International Airport and Suvarnabhumi International Airport on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. The flight route is seasonal and will run between December 4, 2022, and April 14, 2023. The aircraft features three cabins – Signature Class, Premium Economy, and Economy Class.

The westbound flight leaves Vancouver at 11pm and arrives in Bangkok at 5.55am. The eastbound flight will leave Bangkok and 8.30am and arrive in Vancouver at 6.35am, technically going back in time. Both flights are designed to arrive early in the morning to give passengers the maximum choice of same-day connecting flights.

The service will provide a new option for American passengers. Before they would have to transit through Hong Kong, Seoul, Taipei, Tokyo, or, in the other direction, the middle eastern hubs.

Yesterday, Prime Minister of Thailand Prayut Chan-o-cha was visited by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau who is in town for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) 2022 Summit from November 16-19.

Trudeau informed Prayut of Air Canada’s new route to be launched next month and said it would help boost tourism revenue for both Thailand and Canada.

The leaders also discussed the positive relationship between the two countries and talked about launching a Canada-ASEAN free-trade agreement to create more middle-class job opportunities on both ends.

Trudeau expressed Canada’s support for efforts by ASEAN to put a stop to the crisis in Myanmar. Canada condemns human rights violations committed by the Burmese junta, reiterated the Canadian PM.

PM Prayut and PM Trudeau also discussed the importance of climate-resilient infrastructure to help manage the increasingly serious impacts of climate change in the Indo-Pacific region.

Trudeau thanked PM Prayut for hosting the APEC Summit.

What is the current state of passenger arrivals at swampy, and immigration queuing in particular please anybody? GN

[Mod edit: don't need a new thread every time someone comes through the airport, so we keep them all in the same one. Thx. ]

Arrived back lunchtime today and no changes yet. Immigration was quick because I could use fast tack and no issues despite my non O expiring while abroad, just said I was getting another one in Hua Hin again. Backs were not too slow arriving either. Just over an hour from landing to leaving the airport

I need to go to Perth, so could you post on the other thread how it worked out. Did you go from here both ways, or just coming back? Thanks very much.

Just seen this article - it talks about the need for minimum of 2 vaccines but that insurance is recommended rather than mandatory

Welcome back
Did you have to show a return ticket at check in ? Or a ticket out of Thailand?

In response to Joelle, no, I did not have to show a return or onward ticket. The officer could see all of my previous visa and extension stamps and did not even mention it although I did get it in first that I am going to get a new visa here.
Nereus, I went to Perth six months ago on the same Bangkok, Singapore, Perth and my colleagues regularly travel there from India or the UK (via Doha or Bahrain) with my relief flying Glasgow/Bahrain/Perth without any issues. We all have e-visas for entry as we are seafarers in transit going to work. Those going to Perth do a weeks self isolation (the joys of working for a Chinese company trading to China) but have not had any issues going to Perth. From here the other route is via KL depending on flight availability.
Hope this helps and fewer spelling mistakes as I am now home and not typing in the minibus on the way home.

Ok, thanks very much. Which airline was it from Bangkok? (I am retired from crew changes!)

Flights from Europe have gone up but they're nowhere near twice the price, I have a flight this week and it was about a 100 euros more than before the pandemic for a flight at this time of year.

I've not tried them, but a friend was telling me the 'go to' airline for many in the UK at the moment is Bamboo Airlines, a Vietnamese carrier. It flies Gatwick to Vietnam, where they then pick up a cheap flight to Thailand. Savings are meant to be considerable. I'm only the messenger here, and have no idea regarding how good the info is.

I just put some dates in for a flight from BKK to LGW via SGN and the price was almost the same as a direct flight using Thai (to LHR) and with no (considerable) layover. I’m not shooting the messenger, just providing feedback!!

I’ve got an upcoming flight from BKK to LHR and is about £950 so whilst that may not be double, it’s a lot closer to double than costs used to be. When I booked, I checked the cost of Business flights and they were about £4,000 so very close to double. These were direct flights with Thai, but Etihad were just as expensive
