adding Thai language to my computer

Yes she who must be obeyed has finally won (maybe)

I have tried changing my computers language options to use Thai.
However it keeps asking me for a disc i don't have with a file 301 ????.

Any clues on a very ,very easy way, to add Thai. With Windows XP.
The external key board is in English and Thai.
Up till now she was using a program off the Internet and cutting and pasting. however she upgraded hot mail to the new whatever now 'it no work' her words.
It would be useful as she is studying externally and needs to email the UNI.

I log her on as a guest so she cant make any major changes. I think that works.

Start > Settings > Control Panel > Regional and language options > Languages > tick the box that says "install files for complex scripts and right-to-left languages (including Thai)

You will need the Windows XP CD.

Yes the disc is in Australia.

I was hoping for a way round this with out the CD maybe a ????? copy.

Thanks Buksida, I followed the instructions as well, downloaded from the disk as instructed, but how do I go about using Thai instead of English?

Under page > encoding I now have "Thai (windows)" beside a bullet point and if I click there, it appears to do something, the cursor and hour-glass appear but still nothing types in Thai. I guess there is something else I need to do?

Incidentally, when I first did the above, the edit to this post went missing!

SHIFT & Alt pressed together works on my PC. If that doesn't work, you may have a little blue box in the bottom right of your screen with . Click it, and it'll let you choose your language.EN inside.

Blimey BB, that was quick, posted before I had edited my post!!!

However, shift/alt just makes the tool bar, "file>edit>view etc appear. Still, I'll play around with it.

After you've done the Start > Settings > Control Panel > Regional and language options > Languages > tick the box that says "install files for complex scripts and right-to-left languages (including Thai) bit, you have to click the Details box (just above what you've just done). Then add Thai as a Language that you use.

Many thanks, Big Boy, all completed - the above was me just tapping a few keys to check. I now have the EN/TH box bottom right! That will make it easier for Ooy, she posts in English when using my laptop and if wanting to use Thai, she had to change to her own. This will save a lot of messing about.

I have just had a thought when i purchased the brand new ASUS computer it came with windows XP already loaded. So i mat not have the disc .

Can any body suggest other ways of obtaining the Thai language on this computer.

Also i might point out i am not very computer savvy.

You need the CD or a copy since Windows needs to install additional files that were missed during setup.

Its very rare for big brand vendors to supply the CD even though you have probably paid for a full licensed version of the software.

Buksida's right. I have a Dell and everything came ready installed. Great, until something goes wrong!

Anyway, to cut a long story short, Dell will provide the disks when a system is purchased - if asked. They told me that and I guess others will do the same?

Actually, I would like to add a postscript to this. In my case, something serious did go wrong and Dell eventually had to send me all the disks to rebuild the PC. The customer service was absolutely fantastic. American educated indians phoning me from the sub-continent taking me through the whole process which wasn't quick. In parts they took over the PC, in others I had to do it myself. Over a couple of days it was all done.

But I had to get a new security tool as the pre-installed McAfree had expired. Anyway, I got Norton instead (unofficial advise) - and the advice from the wonderful Dell support, when asked if I should purchase on-line or get a disk from a shop? Always get the disk, in case of problems, so you can re-load it!!!!
